A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago.
However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down.
Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded and crashed off the coast of nearby East Moriches, Long Island, killing everyone on the plane.
..This team of investigators who actually handled the wreckage and victims bodies, prove that the officially proposed fuel-air explosion did not cause the crash, reads a statement by the producers of the film, which will debut on cable network EPIX next month. They also provide radar and forensic evidence proving that one or more ordinance explosions outside the aircraft caused the crash. However, the statement said they did not speculate about the source or sources of any ordinance explosions.

I’ve never believed it was a spark in the fuel tank. All the sparks in the world will not ignite anything without the proper mix of fuel AND OXYGEN.
The best part of TWA 800 investigation was the CIA animation that shows:
#1 aircraft explosion
#2 aircraft cracks in half
#3 two halves of aircraft CLIMB another 2,000 feet
#4 both halves of aircraft change their mind after climbing 2,000 feet and decided to descend toward the water
Have a friend who was on a fishing boat in Jamaica Bay, almost under that plane who said the exact same thing. Flash, gyrations, plane started coming apart. They were so close that the boat went and held station over where the tail section had sunk in the South Channel until Harbor G (NYPD) got there.
Well... it was a JOINT NATION EXERCISE. They were testing a new anti-aircraft/anti-missile missile. There may have been several different versions of this missile being testing by the UK or the French. The missile was designed not to HIT the TARGET, but to detonate when near. One of the release charges was metal pellets, and another was a razor sharp tungsten ring that enlarged radially outward, cutting anything nearby in half.
They were shooting at a a towed Target Drone, IIRC, and TWA800 got a little too close to the 'area' and the missile found a bigger 'signature' and followed it.
Which 'ship' launched the missile and which nation that ship belong to, is what has been kept secret. So far.
It was a big dog and pony show conducted in an uncontrollable airspace (they were purposely conducting the test in waters near the airport as proof of how well this new missile would work), and Murphy's Law triumphed.
It was decided, at the highest levels, that for the good of all the nations involved in the test, that the truth would be kept hidden and would be classified as a matter of 'national security' and the men on all those ships were sworn to secrecy under penalty of death, before the next day dawned.
I knew a freeper (RIP harpseal) who said the same thing. IIRC he was somewhere out there with friends. One or more was former military and knew what they’d seen.
I remember watching TV right after the crash. One of the networks showed a video from a wedding, and you could clearly see in the background a flame ascending towards the plane and then the explosion.
The reporter even pointed it out. It was shown exactly once. Mr G and I kept asking why it was never shown again.
Why would that a..hole smile..he always wanted to blame in on the US Navy for the same reason he became a 9/11 truther..he a terrorist apologize. .got driven off this board for good reason.
I personally thougt for twa 800 the best bet was a terrorists missile attack and that Slick Willie covered it up because of his reelection coming up
That was one of many episodes during the Clinton years in which “the investigation *was* the cover-up”.
They were masters at it. Having a press corps devoid of curiosity helps, as does an opposition party devoid of moral courage.

My Buddey said he was called twice by the FBI. He gave the same statement both times, the FBI said “Thank you” both times and hung up.
Was it bomb residue ? I read that it was propellant residue.

I’m beginning to join Muchelle, in that she’s never been proud of her country until her husband was nominated for President, whereas I used to be really proud of my country but since her husband was nominated and elected President, now not so much!

The RAM missiles wouldn't impact leaving rocket fuel everywhere but rather would uncoil outside like super high speed barbed wire, ripping and shredding and eventually precipitating an explosion. Not only that, it would be the logical selection for an easy target close to a populated area. So far the wreckage information, the maps, the radar all are fitting this hypothesis extremely well!

He meshed his theory with the facts. The “authorities” kinda placated him until the residue found on the seat swatches tested to be missile propellant. Then they went balls to the walls to silence him. I read somewhere the FBI initiallt set up transits at the different locations to pin point the witness’stories. When the witness’ Statements were consistent concerning the streak of light heading toward the airplane, the FBI took a different path. Also an airline pilot made a video of the streak of light. The FBI confinskated it and it was never heard from again.
But ... what of the CIA movie that informed the world differently and with such finality?
It’s probably out there in the interwebs somewhere. Archives of one of the major papers might be useful. I can’t remember if the latimes or nydailynews articles indicated which.
After slicing on Occam's Razor, your explanation seems likeliest.
However, that doesn't explain why the Feds went to such ridiculous lengths to conduct such a crazy explanation that defies known principals of flight and the law of gravity.
Sad isn't it, this once great and proud nation that our grandchildren will never, ever know as we did.
