Even after surrender Sherman had to burn Atlanta to the ground!


Lee surrendered in early April, 1865. Atlanta burned months before that.

Hood burned Atlanta first and did more damage than Sherman. Hood was indiscriminate, burning his ammunition train, and when it blew up, letting the large number of fires so started continue and spread.

Sherman burned specific buildings that would be of use to the rebel government.

Many lost causers choose to forget about the damage Hood was responsible for, or even blame Sherman for Hood’s damage.
