God love you too, wardaddy!
I don't have the correct home environment, nor the time and loving patience required to happily own a dog right now.

I do love cats.
But I know they can also become dangerous, for reasons they can't communicate. Less so than dogs, since cats are smaller, weaker, and not pack animals.

One of my favorite pets was an AKC registered German Shepherd, designated working class, due to his large size.

I trained him via the Kohler method. All dogs are pack animals, by nature.
We can nurture almost any dog into becoming a member of a new family/pack, but any changes to the family structure or environment will cause the dog to naturally assert it's perceived place in the new “pack”. If the dog does not consider itself to be an Alpha or Beta member of the family, chances are higher the dog won't attack the human children of the Alpha parents.
Other children are an entirely different matter, since they are not “pack”.

People often forget that, about their pet dogs.

Maybe someday, I will again own a dog
After the puppy and training stages, they are wonderfull pets.
But infinitely harder to maintain than a cat.
