I'm kind of rooting for OnMyHonor.net. Because I think it has the potential to draw from all denominations and be what the Boy Scouts were.

The other organizations mentioned, I'm sure are fine organizations worthy of support. The article mentioned Catholic organizations. The SBC has Royal Ambassadors, the Assemblies of God has Royal Rangers. And there are interdenominational organizations such as Awana.

But these are more faith and evangelism centered organizations than survival skills or scouting centered. And while we need faith and evangelism, these organizations will be more fragmented with each denomination going their own way, as they have in the past. They are about faith and not primarily about scouting.

Each has their place. But when it comes to Scouting, I'm hoping that OnMyHonor puts together an organization focused on Scouting that quickly relegates the Boy Scouts to a number 2 position and shows the world that embracing homosexuality over traditional values is an out of business strategy.

Thank you for this excellent post. Tomorrow, our local Knights of Columbus Council will be discussing the various options to the sadly deficient BSA that are available to us for sponsorship. This list of groups who hold to Catholic morality is very welcome.

These organizations will only grow, now that the BSA has decided to go PC.

Not to sound like a jerk, I thought Kepha/ Cephas Kephas/ was Aramaic for Rock. Petros is Greek For Rock. That is what we tell the protestants when practicing apologetics.

Amen!

I haven't talked to the scout leaders in my parish, but I am curious as what their next step is in regarding the scouts.

I'll pass this information along.

"Rome" is promoting "virtue and Christ" and therefore I'm supporting "Rome".

'K?

God bless you, Theo, and have a good Sunday, my FRiend.

As I understand it, Cephas is the Greek rendering of the Aramaic Kepha, rock; the Latin words for rock are "petra" and "saxum".

Just think, the first bishop of Rome could have been "Pope Sax".

Now, that rocks!

Let’s hear it for the Swim the Tiber merit badge.

LOL!!

I have great respect for the Catholic Church, warts and all; more so now than ever. But I grew up Protestant, and the subject matter of the Latin rite was verboten in our household. So when my high school English teacher kept putting words like "novena" and "scapular" on our weekly vocabulary list, I complained pointedly, citing the First Amendment (this was in the early 60s). From then on, she graded on the curve, and my scores unless absolutely perfect were always where the B's were separated from the A's. I think the whole class suffered. Then she began dating the gay art teacher. I guess she thought his not making moves on her was because he was a good Christian. We tittered!

Today, I would rush my grandchild into any Catholic organization before any government school or "commoonity" group whatsoever.

Petra is Greek for "rock." The Latin word appears to be simply a loan-word from Greek.

St. Paul calls St. Peter "Kephas" (accent on the last syllable) in Galatians 1.18, 2.9, and 2.11 (but "Petros" in Gal. 2.7 & 2.8).

Great post, AW! I read it twice!

I wish more FReepers would tell good stories from their lives, and fewer would churn out their boilerplate, cut-and-paste --- you know what.

Heaven bless you forever! :o)

Several excellent alternatives for Boy Scouts - this is the spirit needed to change things for the better - not defeatism or hopelessness.

If anyone wants on/off any of my pinglists, freepmail me.

Thank you for this post. My son would make Eagle Scout before the end of the year. It’s the one thing he has truly worked very hard for and really enjoys. This whole thing just makes me sick.

Just curious why would parents feel comfortable with Catholic Priests teaming up with boys from the boy-scouts?
