Two life coaches who hosted a radio show called "The Pursuit of Happiness" apparently committed suicide together in their Brooklyn apartment, police said.
Motivational speaker John Littig, 48, and his common-law psychotherapist wife, Lynne Rosen, 46, were found with plastic bags over their heads and a tube attached to a canister of helium, according to police.
Two suicide notes were found, police said.
The manager of the building, Hasan Boztepe, 51, said he smelled a strong odor coming from the apartment and broke down the door Monday morning after no one answered his repeated knocks.
He found the bodies sitting on a couch, holding hands. The canister with an open valve was on Rosen's right, he said.
Boztepe said he also found two suicide notes, one apparently written by a man and one by a woman.
In the man's note, Boztepe remembered the words: "I can't take it anymore, my wife is in too much pain."
"I was shocked. I am still in shock. I feel so bad for these people," Boztepe said.
He said he knew the couple and stopped by the apartment last week to fix something for Littig. "He walked me to the door and said 'thank you very much.' He was a very nice guy -- and a couple of days later, this."
The couple's radio show, "The Pursuit of Happiness," on WBAI-99.5 FM focused on "personal development, growth and creativity" according to their website. It was an hourlong show airing every other Thursday afternoon.
The couple also led a life coaching consulting company, Why Not Now, offering coaching "designed to help foster and encourage your inner strengths," and "put you confidently on the path to designing the life you've always wanted to live," according to their website.

hey, gas and bloating hurt, no matter what age you are! :-)
Weirdo.
Was his wife ill? Are we talking physical pain here?
Anyway, helim down’t make you happy. Just gives your ghost a squeaky voice.
Berlin Freeper was making a joke funny to any of us who have ever had children. Lighten up, dr_lew!
Well, I’ve got grandchildren, and that’s a wonderful experience, I can tell you. They laugh and cry by the hour and by the minute, as did their parents who were my children, but for their own reasons, mostly mysterious to myself. Sorry if I don’t get the joke, which I don’t.
Those will be mandatory in the Obamacare exchanges
for older citizens and small ones who are a burden on society.
"For her sake I hope she is far away from you. "makes you a hateful weirdo.
Um, not to speak for Berlin Freeper, dr_lew ... But I think that's what he was exactly trying to say!
When I stopped making my daughter laugh for hours she then stopped crying later for hours.
No hateful weirdo can change that observation.
I wondered that. As far as I could tell, the answer is no. Some of the accounts I read indicate that it was the man who was the driving force here, so this expression of his would in that case be a mere instrument of his domination. That's what I'm picturing.
As to Helium, I believe it is its inert nature which gives it its benign properties here. The body reacts to excessive CO2, but not to the displacement of O2, apparently. The same goes for nitrogen gas,N2, which of course is the dominant constituent of the air we breathe. There have been deaths due to N2 asphyxiation, and I believe the insidious nature of this hazard is the lack of warning before blackout.
Helium is a scarce resource, so one would think that N2 would be the considerate choice for this purpose.
I never hated anybody in my life. I never made anybody “laugh for hours” either, and I can’t even picture what this might involve, but it doesn’t sound pretty. This certainly seems consistent with your own assessment.
To me, it’s weird. Struck me that way right off.
You are a Trolling hateful weirdo with nothing to justify your hate.
I’ll add that to my resume.
I already did.
Well, amen to that, brother. Unfortunately, there are hundreds or thousands that this couple led astray, and with this final act, gave hopelessness to the message. How do we reach those who listened to this terrible message and neglected the Word of God, the One Who came down from Heaven, Who was God Himself, and gave everything to achieve this message?
Maybe all their fans will imitate them.
I think Ansel wins. That extra touch of bitterness really sells it for me.
