Not new, but Minnesotans have a habit of saying borrowed when they mean lent. As in “He borrowed me some money”.

We’ve replaced it with Newspeak (under the name “political correctness.”)

“- Use of the present tense instead of the past tense, e.g.: “I’m down at the store last night, and this guy comes in...” This seems to be the rule not the exception at Fox News these days, FWIW.”

Actually, use of present tense in story-telling of past events is correct, just as using present tense in relating future scheduled plans is also correct.

Most teen communication is for - well, let’s face it - finding dates. When I was growing up ‘the mail’ only came around once a day. I remember the long hours between those deliveries and my habit of getting out paper stationery to write long notes and letters - with actual words.

With smart phones and the InterWeb, quick-clipped exchanges, not colorful prose, is the new standard, in sorting through prospective dates / future mates. And, as many as possible, both to find the “best” person suited to you, and to attract the best mate as well.

Not attempting to defend these new practices, just explaining them.

Harder to attach a lipstick kiss or perfume to an e-mail. A pity, isn't it?

I hear people over 50 say OMG. I don’t think they have a clue how stupid they sound.

My kids know better than to say the words, their friends are warned every time after saying it, that it is not allowed in our house. A few warnings are required and that takes care of the problem.

You see people of all ages texting and e-mailing and abbreviating words and thoughts because of communicating in that manner.

Thank you for recognizing that the term "e-mail" should, and does, contain a hyphen. You made my day.

Just between "you and I".

You must be young, when I was growing up, it came twice a day.
