People warned at the time that Bush’s new powers would still be there when somebody less trustworthy was President....

Push back against the federal government?

I look at our problem in terms of 2001: A Space Odyssey” where HAL the super computer goes rogue and starts killing the crew.

One way to stop this would be for the survivor of the massacre to completely “pull Hal’s cord out of the wall” and shut him down.

The problem with this solution is that Hal controls the spacecraft’s functions like air, water and so forth. A complete shutdown would kill the one survivor.

This is the paradox we face today in America - somehow we must shut off the “higher functions” of the federal government that is slowly killing our Free Republic, while leaving on line the important functions we need like national defense.

In the movie, the lone survivor of Hal’s massacre is able to do this difficult operation with success, but will American patriots?

Because if the issues comes to civil war - a meat axe will be used against the federal government and completely destroy it.

Then what? Do you think China and Russia would pass up an opportunity of a divided and half destroyed country? In the last civil war, France took the opportunity to invade and occupy Mexico.

I've had a theory for a long time that had he lived long enough, Theodore Roosevelt would have explicitly identified with Fascism (by which I mean actual Fascism, the Italian version).

Teddy was an interventionist in both the economy and in foreign affairs. He was the youngest man ever to become President and advocated "the strenuous life," calling to mind Fascism's stress on youth and its belief in vitalism, "the life force." He, like most people of his day, had very patronizing racial attitudes based on contemporary theories of evolution (the "Great White Fleet"'s 1907 world tour was in part to show the superiority of the white race). He (like his cousin Franklin) regarded the Japanese as "the yellow peril."

It's a good thing Teddy lived before the modern age of mass communication and before the government got as big as it later became. Else he would have probably had everyone marching around in spiffy uniforms and saluting him.

Again, this is a personal opinion.

Just watched a documentary (again) on the lead up and spread of fascism in Europe and Japan in the 1930s. The early stages of its development look strikingly familiar to what is unfolding in the US today. A weak, abysmal economy, a growing number of the populace looking for both a savior and a scapegoat and willing to give over any liberty for security.

James Bradley agrees with you. An excellent read and a real eye opener re: TR ...

3rd Reich - the rise. Its astounding how closely the “liberal” behavior mirrors nazi actions right down to the encouragement of unwed teen mothers, standardized nationally controlled education, and use of various agencies to track and punish enemies.

Today’s liberals will not be able to escape judgement, they are breathing what’s in the air.

On the other hand, it may not come to civil war.
The German people didn’t revolt against the Nazi Regime in 1933.

That brings up an interesting point.

Hitler saw himself as a patriot - or at least a nationalist of sorts.
Yes, he was a ruthless dictator.
But in his mind he was doing it all for the betterment of Germany, of the Fatherland.

Obama, at heart, is also a ruthless dictator.
One glaring difference is that he is not a patriot or a nationalist.
In moments of candor he (and Michelle) have shown their disdain, even hate, for the USA.

Everything Obama does is with the objective of reducing, not elevating, the USA.
He does not want to make the USA better, he wants to reduce us, destroy us, stomp on our history and culture.
He works to convert us into his idea of a dictatorial socialist utopia and to divide the spoils among his chosen people.

Which leads me to believe that Stalin or Mao are much better analogues of Obama than Hitler.

Once Stalin and Mao consolidated power, they tore down the old nationalist institutions and inflicted Communism upon the people of Russia and China with a murderous rage. Although we haven't quite reached the point of mass starvation, gulags, and purges, the trend is in that direction.

And how ironic it was, that when faced with a real existential threat from the outside when Nazi Germany invaded the USSR in 1941, Stalin invoked the old loyalty to the Rodina - 'the Motherland', not the Party, to rally the Russian people to defend the homeland.

My fear is that we are seeing the end result of years of Communist subversion that the Soviet Union and Communist China influenced and supported for many years prior to the so-called fall of the USSR in 1991. The Obama regime is the apotheosis of KGB Active Measures.

It’s definitely fascist. It has to be.

Leftists inherently understand that decentralized units cannot be controlled [corrupted], and therefore seek to destroy any small units in favor of large, centralized units.

The big corps play along because it’s to their benefit to use the government to destroy competition, and they end up beholden to that government in the process.

True!

Obama’s version of socialism is the Internationalist type that hates the nation-state and seeks its destruction.

Starting with the USA....which begs the question of what happens to his Regime when Atlas Shrugs?
