Many pitfalls hidden in those thousands, and thousands of pages of regulation. Either keep it simple (my case), or know exactly what you're doing, and what has changed since you last did it, and document everything!

And stick with the truth in all matters, no matter how painful, or tempting to do otherwise. You'll sleep better and avoid something coming back to bite you in the future.

Because, most of the time it will (Ask Ms. LearnHer). :-)

I do. Have a CPA. I had some interest I wrote down from right on front of the check that wasn't on my IRS 1099 so I report it. He asks me why I report it. I say I'm reporting what i wrote down and would report if I never got a 1099 lol.

It would be easy to make an honest mistake though. Even for a CPA. After I settle down I go over my federal and state returns line by line. I understand most of it except this year I didn't know how to treat a certain kind of income and my CPA had to find out.

Many pitfalls is right. Most of those pages don't apply to most of us. I shudder to think if they take charge of Obamacare how taxpayers will deal with it. There will be a lot of angry people.
