I despised that series as a young man, it was pure, heavy handed propaganda and effective for the left as they introduced many such forms of reality reshaping media to change the image of the American man, the American home, the American family, the American mother and father, to the public.

They played up Archie as the evil conservative bigot. Some how, a lot of his less inflammatory comments resonated with a lot of people. I bet the character’s popularity really pissed of the lefty writers.

Sorry to hear that, lots of us chose to watch it for its humor and ignored everything else. It didn't affect our own political leanings whatsoever.......

As for your other off the wall claims, the American family wasn't redefined nor was the American father and mother.

The American family, father and mother remained exactly as they were throughout the lifetime of the sitcom.

Some people definitely need to get a life.........sheesh!

Wow, I thought that I was the only one that thought that. 21 posts before someone agreed. For people with doubts about the political message, look up Norman Lear...

My understanding is that the show was originally created to mock conservatism, but backfired. Everyone loved Archie and hated Meathead.
