Archie expressed what many people wouldn’t have openly stated but were thinking none-the-less.

I never paid attention to the political issues...it didn’t matter because the humor was soooo infectious.

Why does caww have to be a lefty? You really are, this thread of 200 posts reveals that clearly, your avoidance and denigration of conservative movie and TV opinion proves that.

The fact that you have a history of going after conservatives who point out liberal Hollywood bias, is proof of that.

I’m curious why a young guy who avoids conservative entertainment sites, wants to constantly promote his liberal entertainment views and arguments at this activist conservative forum.

I don’t think many were even remotely tuned to the political leanings so much...rather if anything ...revealed how ridiculous the left point of view was.....and they gave Archie a platform many could identify with, done in such good humor everyone laughed regardless.

It was a great show all enjoyed no matter what political views one held....though I’m sure some on the left got their pants in a knot.

I’m not promoting a single liberal argument and you know it. I’m through with this thread.

Oh yeah...Jean Stapleton was fully on board as a liberal then....but she was seen as a loving simple minded woman as Edith....and a dingbat at times which moved the story line.

I could barely stand Gloria and Mike...reminded me of teenagers trying to get their mis-guided points across...like many teenagers and college students today.

Keeping in mind the “All in the Family” producer, Norman Lear, is so left, the worst thing that ever happened in his view was the collapse of the Soviet Empire. I literally heard him say that the only problem with Communism is that it hasn’t yet been done right .... theoretically, according to Norman, once someone gets that formula down the world will clamor for communism!

SO that being said, how likely is it that the original intent of Archie’s character was to get the left’s panties in a knot? I think not so much as to make fun of a middle aged, middle class white guy who was painted as a small-minded bigot vs. his ever so brilliant and liberal son-in-law, Meathead. That backfired, of course, but it was probably the last think Lear & Co. expected.

I don’t think many were even remotely tuned to the political leanings so much

The series was purposely aimed at the republican type middle Americans, it was intended to influence them without them being aware of it. That was Norman Lear's goal, and it worked splendidly.

“”IBTimes: After about five seasons, “All in the Family” seemed to run out of gas — Nixon was out of office, the Vietnam War was over and U.S. society had drastically changed since the 1960s. Why did the show go on for another four seasons when it had little left to say?

Strate: It was popular, it was profitable, and commerce trumps art for the most part on television, which is why such programs often get stretched out in this way. But in all fairness, along with the lure of success, I think Lear and his colleagues felt that with this platform, they had a responsibility to continue to express their progressive views.””

...”Scenes like that played out across America at the time and no other other drama captured and reflected them as well. The fact that it STILL plays so well and is so powerful means that it transcends the politics of the time”.....

Exactly....and it’s STILL humorous.

So far, as you have come at me on a number of threads like this, you are always fighting for the left, and you come at me for some conservative post that I make about Hollywood.

As we learned, that is why you avoid conservative Hollywood sites like Big Hollywood, and speak so nastily about it.

Do you have any connection to an intelligence service ?

It looks like you work in the arts, you seem to have knowledge there.

Seems like you’re uncomfortable with this thread, but you also seem to want to dispel any talk of media having any alterior motives.

Are you more than one person ? You seem to to have a knowledge of older things sometimes, but not always.

I thought I saw a few older posts that reflected a knowledge of Russian culture.

Is Jorge your hero ?

<....”Turns out that Mike is not nearly as “open minded” as he thinks. He just an unthinking knee-jerk liberal.......
And if you listen to what Archie says, he often does make a lot of sense, even if saying it in a non-PC way”....>

That's how I saw it and I wasn't involved in politics at all at the time. I thought Gloria was as ridiculous as Mike in her thinking...and despite how Archie formulated his positions...he was generally right...and the majority of the listening audience knew that.

Doesn’t matter to me, I mean, the various services are working all over the place.

I mean, all these posts are public, so there’s no big secrets here.

I think mostly FR is old curmudgeons, and those heading in that direction, so I doubt you’ll influence many people here. Mind control’s tough when people are stubborn, old and set in their ways.

And all the lurkers, well, anything left-leaning stands out like a sore thumb.

It’s like Inspector Clouseau sneaking around FR, kind of silly.

“intelligence service”? LOL I’m an English major and cinephile. I love reading Borges hence my screen name. You can read political motives into everything. You don’t think Shakespeare had ulterior motives? He was out to glorify the Tudors at any cost. That sort of thing is everywhere.

LOL, you are arguing about a TV sitcom, and defending it’s planned and deliberate, lefty agenda, and it’s effect on American culture, AND YOU WEREN’T EVEN THERE.

You are just some kid who’s teachers told him what to believe.

Give an example. Pauline Kael called ‘Straw Dogs’ and ‘Dirty Harry’ fascist art. I loved both. Triumph of the Will? Potempkin?
