Interesting. And that is exactly how the socialist technocrats who rule us wanted the crowd to act - not make trouble, and talk to the subhumans as people.

In a more genteel society, the crowd would have attacked the two mutants and the only thing left for the police to deal with when they arrived would have been piles of assorted body parts and disjointed body organs.
