In AP, Rosen investigations, government makes criminals of reporters
Washington Post ^ | May 22, 2013 | Dana Milbank

But here’s why you should care — and why this case, along with the administration’s broad snooping into Associated Press phone records, is more serious than the other supposed Obama administration scandals regarding Benghazi and the Internal Revenue Service. The Rosen affair is as flagrant an assault on civil liberties as anything done by George W. Bush’s administration, and it uses technology to silence critics in a way Richard Nixon could only have dreamed of.

To treat a reporter as a criminal for doing his job — seeking out information the government doesn’t want made public — deprives Americans of the First Amendment freedom on which all other constitutional rights are based. Guns? Privacy? Due process? Equal protection? If you can’t speak out, you can’t defend those rights, either.

Beyond that, the administration’s actions shatter the president’s credibility and discourage allies who would otherwise defend the administration against bogus accusations such as those involving the Benghazi “talking points.” If the administration is spying on reporters and accusing them of criminality just for asking questions — well, who knows what else this crowd is capable of doing?

When Rosen and I covered the Bush White House together a decade ago, I knew him as a scrappy reporter who had a fascination with Watergate trivia. He later wrote a sympathetic biography of John Mitchell, Nixon’s disgraced attorney general. Now he’s learning just how abusive a Justice Department can be, from an administration that has launched more leak prosecutions than all previous administrations combined.

Axe falling a little too close to your neck there Dana? Welcome to our world, sh**head.

Notice how Milcrank does backflips to hammer the right all along the way in this article.

This somehow excuses his heart wrenching “scolding” of dear leader.

Barry is making Dana look so bad it is undermining his “credibility” in carrying Barry’s water on Benghazi, poor thing!

You urinalists *are* for the most part immoral vermin, if not outright criminals, Dana.

Still... what Obamao did is over the top.

But, hey, y’all made him what he is today.

Enjoy your slide down the razor blade into the bucket of acid, Dana ol’ buddy. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving scumbag.

Our correspondent Dana Milbank has just figured out that Obama’s administration really hates the Freedom of the Press? Oh, no! How could this be? He feels so unloved by his man crush!

It's sad to watch your fantasy lover implode into just another Josef Stalin kind of Marxist, isn't it Dana?

Wow this is Dana the mouthpiece in the post using Nixon to describe his great leader. The winds just may be blowing our way. Now some great video today of Lois Lerner pleading the 5th and we can call this a productive week for all the press.

Don't get me wrong I am not under any illusion we have won but at least it feels like we may have a first down and 4 more plays.

FYI I am digging to see what Beck was working on when the Justice dept was listening to multiple lines at fox. Could be Van Jones. I will let you know. Remember they always use deception we are looking at Rosen but maybe the target was Glenn

What in Heaven’s name did George Bush ever do to “assault civil liberties?”

Holder alledgely recused himself from the AP investigation. But what about the Rosen and other Fox reporters? Inquiring minds what to know.

Excellent thinking!

IIRC, Glenn was on a rampage.

I feel it too, 1st down - we have the ball.

Prayers we don’t mess it up.

My head is spinning, so many theories being pushed out all at once.

It will be enlightening to see what Beck pieces together.

What in Heaven’s name did George Bush ever do to “assault civil liberties?”

He signed the Patriot Act and enacted other policies that only a moral government could use.

With an amoral government, the left wanted to use those powers against its domestic opposition, e.g. drones killing US citizens without due process, monitoring emails without warrants, these AP and Rosen scandals, etc.

It was a wide breach of Constitutional rights that eventually enabled DHS' Napolitano to calling prolife protesters and veterans as being domestic terrorists, etc.

We have to acknowledge the threat that Islam poses with its claim to religious supremacy while simultaneously getting back to the original intent of the U.S. Constitution, and calling out our left's embrace of our Islamic enemies. (BTW, a reprise of what the pinkos did during the Cold War. I went to Vietnam twice at the time. I'm tired of all of their crap. I was born in NYC.)

You don't get out of being behind the proverbial eight ball by playing safe. FRack the left and Islam!
