Why is the Obama administration lying about who knew what and when about the IRS IG report? And why are they insistent that Obama was kept in the dark even though now it seems everyone at the top of his administration knew?

This modified limited hangout was pushed last night in middle of the tornado to the AP and Washington Post.

In late April, the IRS told Treasury that senior tax official Lois Lerner was considering making a speech in which she would publicly apologize for inappropriate conduct at the IRS in advance of an inspector report documenting how tax agency officials gave extra scrutiny to conservative groups.

Steven Miller took responsibility for this in his senate testimony this morning. It was his idea that Lerner made this disclosure in her speech.

They have no choice but to support Obama's publicly announced comment to the effect that he "read about the IRS scandal in the papers at the same time everyone else did". Of course he's lying. But when you tell one lie it spawns a thousand others.

Communications between the Treasury Department and the White House also have turned out to be broader than initially acknowledged.
*********
One thing you can count on in the government: it is a CYA environment to the max; bureaucrats are very proactive in this regard. They discuss all angles and prepare their defenses against any and all forms of potentially negative news. That’s the very essence of bureaucracy. Nobody is willing to take the blame for anything, and they hate surprises. In this particular case, with a destructive storm looming on the horizon, there had to be weeks of meetings to prepare for when it made landfall.

"At one point, Mark Patterson, the Treasury chief of staff, talked about the timing of the report with Mark Childress, deputy White House chief of staff, according to a person familiar..."

So they timed it to distract from Benghazi, thinking it would be a minor scandal and not be recognized for the impeachment level activity that it was.
