Many homes in Oklahoma have safe rooms built into the garage; steel beams inside cement blocks, anchored into the slab foundation, with a steel door and reinforced roof. If you don’t have a storm cellar, it’s the next best thing.

That's interesting information. In Michigan, most people have basements as it's not a problem digging them. I wondered what was done in those areas of the country were you might have to blast to dig a basement.
When I heard that yesterday's tornado ripped the door right off of someone's storm cellar, visions of the movie Twister crossed my mind. How does one protect ones self from that kind of force?

I have seen some old fashioned storm cellars with a L door way. A sharp turn from the front. Was supposed to help.

Don’t know though.
