To: MD Expat in PA

Your right..I guess compared to being at home or in a car a structure like a school would be the safest place. They showed the movie theater in Moore and it doesn’t look damaged at all, yet the school was destroyed..with tornadoes its the luck of the draw, one place doesn’t have a scratch while the other place can be completely destroyed

Unfortunately if a big mile wide F5 tornado hit you square on with 200+ MPH winds, even the best built structure and the best storm shelter can only provide only so much protection. Better than most houses and certainly better than being in a trailer or in a car or out in the open, but... damn, just damn, why did it have to hit a school? And you are right, a tornado even big ones like this one, the path of destruction is not like in a hurricane, you can be on one side of the highway and only lose a few roof shingles but on the other side, the ground is scrubbed clean.
