Bottom line: that's this caliber of faithful Catholic scholar which the IRS is illegally intimidating: trying to threaten, penalize, and frighten her into silence.

Dr. Anne Hendershott is one of the most articulate and persuasive voices upholding Catholic teachings in the contemporary culture wars. She is a professor in the Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work Department of Franciscan University at Steubenville.

Formerly a tenured professor and Sociology Department chair at the University of San Diego, Hendershott comes to Franciscan University from King's College in New York City, where she is the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Public Policy.

According to Dr. Daniel Kempton, vice president for Academic Affairs at Franciscan University, "While her books on Catholic higher education, the politics of abortion, and the politics of deviance are widely read among scholars, she also writes regularly for a broader audience in numerous magazines and newspaper editorials."

Hendershott serves as the Pope John Paul II Fellow in Student Development at the Cardinal Newman Society's Center for the Advancement of Catholic Higher Education. She is a member of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars and a member of the board of the Society of Catholic Social Scientists.

Previously, as a tenured professor of Sociology at the University of San Diego, she created a Catholic Studies Program and a Students for Life Club.

Anyone to the right of Joe Lieberman who was audited anytime since 2010 likely has standing to sue on this issue.

Reap the Whirlwind, Dems!

So when the agent explained that she would need to come alone and in person to discuss her “business” activity in July of 2010, the professor was perplexed.

Rule number one: Never go to an audit in person! That's why you pay a professional tax preparer (CPA, Lawyer, &c) and they sign off on your return.

Rule number two: Give your tax preparer power of attorney to discuss ONLY the return for the year in question. This measure prevents fishing expeditions like "2010 seems to be OK so lets look at 2009". At this point your preparer packs up his notes and says "I am not authorized to talk about anything except the 2010 return. We will have to schedule another appointment after I consult with my client." He then picks up his briefcase and leaves.

Rule number three: Rinse and repeat as needed until you have had three consecutive audits with no factual error judgments against you. If they persist, you file a harassment suit against the examiner, his supervisor, and the manager of the local office.

That's how to play their game, break up their attack into bite sized pieces, remain outside the arena, stall, reschedule, drag things out, use their tactics against them (legal jujitsu), go on the offensive.

I've been audited three times and they have never squeezed a dime out of all the wogga wogga we went through. I'd rather pay my preparer for his time than play their game and loose because I don't know the rules.

If you don't use a preparer to "do" your 1040, you really should. Especially if there is any chance of an audit, you sit home and tend your knitting while your guy does battle for you.

Regards,
GtG

They are going to start coming out of the wood work with stories of abuse. You don’t have to be wrong for the IRS to destroy you. Having them even call you about someone else’s taxes, such as an employee, will scare the living crap out of you. I have seen them garnish wages on the suspicion of underpayment only to find out much later they were wrong. Never an apology or nothing.

Flat Tax. IRS and the Tax Code need to go. It is the American Gestapo.

No of course there was no high level activity instructing this torment of citizens. It was all just a few low level staffers who took a massive inter agency coordinated effort upon themselves. IN A PIG’S EYE AND I AM ELANOR ROOSEVELT!

IRS demanded to know which groups paid her and “what their politics were”

Looks like people at the IRS broke the law... jails are filled with people who think they're innocent... and that they have 'reasons' for what they did... Guess there's room for some delusional IRS folks in the prison system....

She met with the IRS alone? Couldn’t she bring a tax attorney with her?
