Maybe type A phenomenon could have been a factor? My dad was also Alpha. I think there could be something there.

"I understand given your fortunate situation with your wife how and why you would feel that way. I am very happy for you that is the way it has turned out. I offer many prayers for continued health for both you and your wife. Unfortunately her situation is not the only outcome."

Many thanks and I agree.

Disease needs to be treated individually according to family history, current circumstances, and probability of outcomes.

My beloved sister-in-law died of a brain tumor in her frontal lobe. It went undiagnosed for a couple of years (still hard to believe / accept). Her surgery was supposed to be "routine", but she passed shortly after surgery.

There are risks on both sides of any medical issue. Sometimes it's OK to let things play out - I've had MANY issues where doctors suggested a remedy with potential side effects much worse than the problem at hand (I won't get into the details). With something that can take life in a rapid fashion - it's wise to err on the side of caution.

So, it's up to the patient and doctor(s) to make an educated decision on treatments - if any.

I agree with all of the Freepers that Angelina Jolie deserves our prayers!

Yeah and if I live long enough I have a 100 percent chance of prostate cancer

So why not just cut it out now

And say goodbye to erections and a full nights sleep anymore?

I’ll take my chances

Why care about Jolie....she’s special as an actress?

She’s a weirdo from getgo

From my post upthread...

“my aunt will turn 90 next month.”

This would be a very unclear way of referring to her sister. ;o)

Sorry about that.

She always has been weird, but I’m sorry she felt the need to maim herself.

Huh? She probably doesn’t look any different, has more money than God and will probably get more roles to turn down. I doubt she’ll have to go on food stamps.

Jon actually had a huge influence on Angie.

Angie has influence because of who she is and she uses it to help others. I respect that.

What is weird to me is narcissism that sucks light. Like your post. When you read something you should actually start using your brain and heart. You'll learn more that way.

read. period.

Amongst all of the emotion what most seem to have missed is that whether you agree with her decision or not she had the freedom to make that decision and the ability to access the care that she needed from the finest healthcare system in the world.

I don't know what her and her husband's politics are. Most of Hollyweird is liberal and support obamacare.

I'll venture a guess that the $3000 test and the surgery will not be available to the peasants.

I respect her courage at sharing her experience. It also shows her deep commitment to being a Mother.

I know many here may not like her and some may not respect her very logical decision. But I find her sharing of her situation to be a great act of love for any women and their husbands that may have to deal with a similar situation. I am also sure this article will shine a light on the issue overall.

John did raise a unique and loving, caring daughter. She has both her father and mother's courage.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It bears repeating.

"I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy," she wrote. "But it is one I am very happy that I made. My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer."

I don't think it's insane at all.

She walks the walk. Why put her kids through that horrific pain if she could avoid it?

It is so hard to deal with watching a loved one go through cancer and the treatment that makes them so very sick. I never thought we would have to deal with it at our age, but thank God, that my Husband is doing well after two years.

I have esophogial (sp) cancer in my bloodline, including my Dad dying of it at only 49. Do I run out and have my voice box removed and breathe through a trach hole the rest of my life just so I can maybe live another decade or two?

Life is a crap shoot in a way. Love God and live it like you love every minute and let the chips fall where they may.

It sounds like your wife did not have the genetic testing done which persuaded the actress to take this radical step. If she has daughters, it would help to know if she has a high risk gene, and also test the daughters when they are old enough.

I remember Nancy Reagan had something similar done and the Feminists destroyed her in the press. They accused her of wanting attention for a double mastectomy when she had cancer in one breast. She said it was preventative.

Does any one else remember this? If I remember right, it was toward the end of Reagan’s last term.
