I've been to Otranto several times, it is very close to the former USAF base I was stationed at, San Vito de Normanni AB. Otranto it is one of the most beautiful places; a castle and medieval city on the coast where the Adriatic meets the Mediterranean sea.
The Cathedral there is actually made up of the bones of those 800 martyrs!

Second, you must have surprised by seeing all those skulls of those Christian martyrs stacked up on top of each other.
