It’s called survival. When dealing with someone trying to kill you, lying to your captors is not a concern. Yourself, your faith and your Deity will know the truth. Forfeiting your life for spoken words makes any future words meaningless.
Telling some islamo nutcase what he wants to hear is no worse than telling a dog you won’t kill it when he takes his teeth out of you so you can reach your weapon.

We are meant to be witnesses to nonbelievers as well as other followers of Christ--maybe even more so. What you assert is the polar opposite of what Jesus did. You don't think he could have avoided the cross? He made a choice--the only right choice. I'd rather die embracing my faith than lead a meaningless life, earn a spiritual death. We are meant to live the truth for others, to set an example. Maybe it changes nothing. Maybe it sways one heart from one thousand heathens. If we don't aim for that one heart--that is meaningless. That is Satan calling you down the coward's path. No thanks.

You forget the saying, “the blood of the Christian marytrs is the seeds for new Christians”.
