“The sheer number of characters who will no longer be on the air means diversity on television is once again at risk,” GLAAD national spokesman Wilson Cruz tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Following a season with the highest recorded number of LGBT characters, these cancellations mean networks have to make a concerted effort to ensure the 2013-2014 season truly reflects the diversity of their audience. With inclusive programs like Modern Family and Glee continuing to lead the ratings and collect praise from critics, it’s in a network’s best interest.”
There’s no mystery from which “diversity worship” derives. This statement could have been made by any number of American college deans. Their “liberally educated” progeny have disseminated across society.
There aren’t enough gays in the U.S. to give MSNBC a ratings point.
Most of the people that really seem to want to see this crap are single women above the age of 20 that have some bizarre attraction to gay dudes, and horny single males hoping to see some lesbian “action” on TV. And even at that there still isn’t enough to stick around long enough to pretend like they honestly see that stuff as normal.
If Modern Family and Glee are highly rated programs then they are good television; they obtain and keep an audience - no more, no less. Good television wins the day every time it’s tried.
