No, it’s been a running theme for me that conservatives have allowed themselves to be chased from the arts and the result is that they know nothing about them. I think the bottom fell out for me about a year ago when freepers went bananas over a production of Kismet which they thought was an Islamic jihadist musical. To have so-called movie buffs claim that Rebel Without a Cause is - not only a black and white film - but a badly acted one as well, just sends me into a bit of a tizzy. There is a reason that 50 years after his death, Dean remains an icon of the American cinema. You guys need to educate yourselves or better yet, just not comment.

Oh, and to the freeper who thought Dean represented the feminization of American culture: Rebel is an indictment of the feminization of American culture. Jim Bachus doesn’t walk around in an apron for nothing.

I think the feminization people are talking about was more in the acting style that became prevalent after the war. During the making of ‘Red River’ in 1946, John Wayne thought that Montgomery Clift was ‘weird’ and ‘fruity’. That sort of internal method acting as seen as effeminate.

I have watched the movie more than once, I know what I saw.

It is interesting that you want me to disregard the art that I personally consumed and formed a personal judgement on, and instead to “educate myself” meaning go ask the left what opinion that I should have.

Like another famous actor said, “Don’t be afraid to see what you see”.

Rebel Without a Cause makes people laugh and groan, it is more of a beer drinking bad movie that you share with buddies for laughs and wisecracking, than great art.

The 1950s produced some great films, that one isn’t one of them.

Incidentally, the script of RWAC was written by Stewart Stern who is still alive at 91.

James Dean and Marilyn Monroe are “icons” because they never age. They died young and left behind a strong body of work.

Hitchcock kept making movies past his prime and had a lengthy career before he truly got up to speed.

They were also “icon”ed with t-shirts and pop art paintings to truly become “iconic”.

Che is an icon and most of the public doesn’t know crap about him. Icon != worth or valued just as chart success != quality or “best of the era”. iconic
