I don’t hate Tebow. I think he’s a great guy and I owuld love for him to be a successful NFL QB. He did some good things, and he really had a different skill set, but he just didn’t throw well enough to win long-term. He didn’t beat any good teams. They were outscored by 42 in the games he did start - the 3 losses were blowouts, while the 6 of the 7 wins were by a touchdown or less. (Three were in OT.)
I also don’t think he can stay healthy while playing QB like a fullback. He will absolutely have to throw better to be a starter, except on a team with no good options (like the 2011 Broncos.) (The 2012 Jets were at that point too, but didn’t recognize it.)
I’m not discounting the possibility of him improving as a passer. Testaverde thinks he is well along in the process. If I was an NFL team GM with no good options at QB, I would sign Tebow as a back-up. I’m not sure what Jacksonville’s problem is, other than maybe the old reginme thought they might want him so the new regime feels obligated to disavow any thought the old regime ever had. Tebow never looked as bad as Gabbert, although their OL might be able to change that.
