I remember being asked for a “solid quarter” or a “solid dollar” in the Army and always wondered exactly what the hell they were talking about.

Technically a “solid quarter” was an actual quarter as opposed to two dimes and a nickel. That’s how I learned it anyways. Never really heard “solid dollar” but maybe it means a whole dollar either paper or metal. In usage though it just means give me a quarter or give me a dollar dressed up just a little bit.
