MONTEVIDEO, Minn. (WCCO) Federal investigators say they stopped a terror attack when they arrested a Minnesota man for having pipe bombs and illegal guns.
FBI agents arrested Buford Rogers on Friday at his home in Montevideo. They say the arrest thwarted an attack on residents of the western Minnesota town.
Jeff Rogers places his American flag upside down to show what he calls the tyranny of government. He says his son Buford or Bucky as hes known is part of the Black Snake Militia, and they just want freedom.
They do not have nothing to fear from any of us, Rogers said. We are patriots.
Theyre also afraid the government will implant everyone with a microchip. But, he says thats very different from plotting violence.
I have no idea who the hell hed even be targeting, he said. Hes not that kind of a person. I guarantee you that.
But the FBI disagrees. On Friday, they raided the home Bucky Rogers shares with his parents and found Molotov cocktails, suspected pipe bombs and guns.
Neighbors watched the whole thing in disbelief. Dustin Rathbun says it was like a scene out of a movie.
All of the sudden I hear, This is the FBI. Come out the of trailer with your hands up, Rathbun said.
Neighbor Alfredo Fuentes Jr. says the illegal materials found in Rogers home could have put the neighborhood in danger,
Its kind of scary for the neighbors, though. If that house got on fire, its gonna throw the neighborhood, Fuentes Jr. said.
Rogers wasnt arrested for terrorism or conspiracy, but rather for illegally possessing a gun. Because of a 2011 felony burglary conviction, hes not allowed to have a gun. But investigators found an assault rifle in their search and say Rogers admitted to using it recently at a gun range.
Sheriff Stacy Tufto says the bombs are the main issue.
Thered have to be a reason for the bombs, Tufto said. Thats all I can say.
Local and federal law enforcement are being tight-lipped about how they learned about Rogers or his alleged plans. But some of Rogers Facebook postings from 2011 show his apparent disdain for the government.
the war is here tsa agents are doing random cheeks and shooting people for no reson, Buford wrote. Ever one better get your guns ready cuz there comeing FEMA.
But Jeff Rogers is steadfast about his son.
Bucky is not a terrorist, he said.
Rogers also told WCCO that the guns found in the search belong to him not his son.
My question as well. And don’t forget he’s a felon with a firearm - in my book that’s a pretty serious crime. Isn’t it conservatives who are always bitching about enforcing the gun laws already on the books then making new ones? Well, enforce this one...
Something tells me that Bucky is not the sharpest tool in the shed. TV showed his dad in full camo next to a BSM sign in the yard.
Only an idiot supports pointless background checks and restrictions. They only target the law abiding.
Criminals will have weapons if they want them and no background check in the world will stop them.
I can almost imagine the conversation between Agents, “ERMEGERD! GAS CAN!”
Mucking bunch of forons...
Turns out this guy had very specific people he was targeting. He was not interested in general mayhem or even terrorism in the broad sense. At this point it appears his motive was personal revenge.
Not that you’ll ever hear that reported ...
Ever watch myth busters? All red-blooded country boys like things that blow up.
Sounds like he’s making some of the same preparations that some of the people on FR are. They could make the same raid on many good folks here who are not terrorists but who dislike the government and are stockpiling.
War thar some hillbillies up above the river a-shootin down on yuz?
Federal slackers.
Let’s say you’re and FBI agent in the area that includes Minnesota. Would you rather spend your time in north Minneapolis and Midway St. Paul, where thousands of Holder’s people and illegals have thousands of stolen weapons and identities, or would you like to hang around a quiet county with hundreds of fishing lakes not far away?
I’m surprised a bunch of dogs weren’t killed.
There was an arrest in Wisconsin last week because some guy had “explosives” in his house, but the police never detailed what the explosives were. The guy said he was a fireworks hobbyist but he didn’t have a license to buy the stuff.
I’m a reloader. All of my stuff is stored so it WON’T blow up.
Kind of a moot point once the Feebies come in and lay out all your crap on a table. Doesn’t matter how you had it stored at that point or what it’s original purpose was.
All that matters is the visual they can then plaster all over the evening news and the Internet.
Yup!
Are these supposed bombs similar to the bombs actually used by the Muslim terrorists in Boston to injure over 200 people?
No one is saying. At first, it was “molotov cocktails”. Now they are saying “pipe bombs”.
The truth will probably have very little to do with the outcome.
I don’t see anything in the 2nd Amendment about “shall not be infringed except if you are a felon”.
Today’s Pioneer Press:
According to Montevideo Police Chief Adam Christopher: “I don’t think it would be a well-orchestrated militia group.”
While Christopher would not specify the plot’s targets, he did say that it was not focused on the general public. “The people who were subject to this threat know they were the subject — they’ve been told. ... People don’t need to be worrying they were the subject ...”
And the only thing he’s been charged with is felon in possession.
