The E/R doctors would have decided at some point that their efforts to keep him alive were not bearing fruit, so they cut the hole in him, and reached in and took his heart in hand and manually pumped it. When THAT failed, the E/R doctor looked at the clock, and said, “HE’S DEAD JIM.”
