President Obama's approval numbers are starting to mimic Mitt Romney's.
According to a new YouGov poll, it's the rich -- not the poor or middle class -- who back Obama more despite his 2012 campaign attacking the rich.
The poll for the Economist found that fewer than half of those with incomes less than $100,000 per year approve of Obama's performance, while he enjoys a 54 percent approval rating among those with incomes higher than that.
Those earning less than $40,000 a year disapprove of the president's performance, 51 percent to 45 percent. Those earning $40,000 to $100,000 disapprove by a rate of 50 percent to 48 percent.
"A largely jobless recovery coupled with a Quantitative-Easing-fueled stock market rally seems to earn more smiles from the upscale among us, fewer from the working class," said the pollsters.

The most angry at the government are the lower middle class. The upper middle class to the uber rich are somewhat ‘feeling’ the burden of higher gas prices and food costs, but can cushion it without much difference in lifestyle.
The lower class don’t feel it as they still live in section 8 housing and get food stamps and bus passes.
The lower middle class are the ones struggling to hoping and praying they make enough to buy food for the week and gas to get to work. God forbid something unexpected happens or a cut in hours, etc...
Yes!
“Like”
The one unique aspect we used to have was moving up and down classes.
Socialism stops the movement, that is why they like it.
The rich love ANYTHING that will reduce the number of up and coming competitors. The super rich, like Warren Buffet, would have even the poor hauled off to camps to keep any of them from rising to his level.
That is exactly my point. If we were to divide the population into quintiles in terms in incomes, the lowest level is on welfare and already living as if expecting a gov handout to supplement those they already get. The fifth above them and the fifth above them are barely, barely making it. And they are being skinned.
I thought it was always known that socialism gets support from the super wealthy and the very poor.
Obama is trying to destabilize the middle class.
What’s shocking? Wealthy people are stupid too.
Correct - that’s the point. They just want to be the protected class of the ‘old money’ - don’t want the possibility of any ‘new money’ coming along and challenging their position. Another poster here described it like this a few weeks ago or so: They don’t care if the pie gets smaller, just as long as they are the only ones who have the pie.
Both parties know where their campaign contributions come from. Gotta keep the billionaires happy
Progressives hate free-markets. The feel they can manage everyone's personal choices much better than the hayseeds can do for themselves. If you are part of the governing class or well-connected to them, then you can do very well too.
I remember clearly that in 2008 I didn't see a single "Sarah Palin" bumper sticker on Wall Street or in Greenwich CT, but I saw plenty of Obama ones.
Mrs WBill and I are solidly ensconced in the middle class. Nevermind $$$$, not germaine to the topic. Just an average middleclass suburbanite slob, that's me.
20 years ago, if you had told me what my salary would be be today, I'd probably have said, "OK. I've got a college degree, I work hard. I believe it."
HOWEVER, if you had told me 20 years ago what my salary would be today ... AND ... that I'd need to clip coupons, skip vacations, stop eating out, plan my driving trips, basically cut every corner and trim every bit of fat possible just to stay afloat ....
... I'd have told you that you were absolutely nuts.
Not a day goes by that I don’t meet an upper income person who voted Marxist. It used to upset me when I met these types, but now I never assume the “rich person” socializing with me is like me.
It would be interesting to see a breakdown, however, among the sub-$40K people, between those who work for a living and those who live off government largesse (not that those two categories are mutually exclusive).
That means poor non-minorities must REALLY disapprove!
I believe it.
I was in DC last weekend and was amazed at the expensive cars, 7 series BMWs, Jags, Mercedes w/ Obama bumper stickers.
Must be the ol’ “I got mine, the rest of you can get screwed” attitude.
Figures that group would like 0bama.
Mayor Doomberg comes to mind (net worth $27b).
