Not sure but it seems like I remember some muslim terrorist group from a region near China that tried some attack in China a few years back or something. Too long ago to remember but these guys look very Asian to me.

Khazakhstan 70% Sunni Muslim. Ethnic groups Kazakh Uzbek, Tartars, & Uighurs. Orthodox are more typically Slavic, including Russian. So a Muslim from this region would look more Asian than Arab. There is a small percentage of Chechen Muslims there also.
I think they were calle Uigers...pronounced weegers....
