“Can someone please explain why it is necessary for the police to wear military battle dress uniforms?”
They have become more and more militarized starting, I think, in ‘93. Uniforms, armor, tactics, tools are much more military than the old bluesuit “policeman is your friend”.
Not defending the trend but they don’t have to invest in dry cleaning when they roll around on the ground with some perp. wash and wear and doesn’t tear up. Most state police agencies still enforce the issued uniform except for swat teams.
Because they look so hunky. <3
