So you believe a parent has the right to force a daughter to marry as long as she lives at home, but, of course, if you follow through with your belief that you have absolute authority over your children, you must give permission for her to leave home first. And while I agree that “eighteen” is quite the arbitrary age, just how long do you believe you have control over your children? Speaking hypothetically, of course.

By the way, I am a grandmother with happily married daughters. And when one of the young men asked our permission to marry our daughter, my husband plainly told him he doesn’t give permission, but does give his blessing. “Our blessing,” in fact. :)

Not exactly. I believe the parents have the God given right to choose a mate for their daughter. Whether or not the girl marries the person is her choice, however. If her parents were adamant, it would probably mean she would have to leave home if she disagreed with the choice.
