Has society really become quite thin-skinned, or is acting “offended” a new tactic that is being used to shut down legitimate political debate? Progressives are increasingly claiming to be offended whenever those on the right disagree with their left-wing positions. It doesn't matter what the issue is; the left will divert a legitimate political debate into an accusation that the right disagrees with them because they are full of hate towards them. This puts the right on the defensive, and removes the real debate from discussion. It then becomes difficult for the right to ever prevail with their position, because to do so would mean “hate” had won.

Yes, the left uses it as a very effective tactic because htey know damn well the right will never stop them in their tracks by sayign somethign along htel ine of “Zip it- Grow some nuts nancy, and quitcherwhinin- you’r makign an ass of yourself and our forefathers and women woudl be ashamed of you for acting liek little kids- now pull yetr skirts up and at trhe very least pretend you’re an adult for 10 secodns so we can get thsi issue debated without all the drama queen crap- ok? I’m not sure if anyone here will be offended...
but this reminds me of a science fiction story I’ve heard about by a certain David Brin (who apparently is a libertarian-type), where some guy comes from the future and is asked what future society is like. He responds:
In the future, there will only be two laws;
1. Thou shalt not offend others.
2. Thou shalt not allow thyself to be too easily offended.
If only that could be the case. It’s more like we’re their bizarro-world opposite... and by design.
Someone once accused me of racism. I asked her if she understood the laws of libel and slander, and how painfully difficult, and excruciatingly expensive it would be to defend herself against such a charge in court. Because to prove that she wasn’t slanderous and libellous she would have had to prove that I was, as she says a “Racist”. The definition of “Racism” is belief in the inherent superiority of one race over another.Oh, the woman apologised and retracted.
