The ones taking that position on FR are more likely to be constitutionalist Oath Keeper types, who fear the possibility of the government abusing the concept of treason in order to use it against patriots.

By the way, I’m a constitutionalist Oath Keeper myself. Swore an oath as I joined the navy to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. An oath is forever.
