Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform (March 19, 2013 Article)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Rand Paul is calling for conservatives to embrace the cause of immigration reform, outlining a proposal that would grant some form of legal status to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants after the federal government has certified that the border is secure.

Paul’s proposal, outlined in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Tuesday, carefully avoided the term citizenship. Instead, the Kentucky senator said he sought a middle ground that would include a multi-year process of granting visas to undocumented workers that would hinge on the annual verification of the security of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Paul echoed the key finding of an internal review from the Republican National Committee that called for the party to recast its image in order to attract minority voters, saying the GOP must change the perception of the party as anti-immigrant.

Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but “Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration.”

How’s this for reform — round up the criminal invaders current occupants and officeholders on Capital Hill and in the WH and toss their 'Progre$$ive' collective asses out of the country. -- slight edit. ;-]

Instead of trying to figure out ways to make nice and split 11,000,000 votes with the Democrats why don’t we just toss them all and eliminate 11,000,000 votes.

Does he really think a single one of those coming here illegally will vote Republican? Someone find me a big rock, I want to crawl under it.

“Rand is a social conservative and a Baptized member of the Episcopalian Church”

The Episcopalian Church is a liberal as they come. They take no official stance on abortion, having women pastors and have open homosexual pastors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Episcopal_Church_%28United_States%29

The Episcopal Church was active in the Social Gospel movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.[9] Since the 1960s and 1970s, it has opposed the death penalty and supported the civil rights movement and affirmative action. Some of its leaders and priests marched with civil rights demonstrators. Today the Church calls for the full civil equality of gay and lesbian people, and the Church’s General Convention has passed resolutions that allow for same-sex marriages in states in which it is legal.[10] The Convention also approved an official liturgy to bless such unions.[11] On the question of abortion, the Church has adopted a “nuanced approach.”[12] About all these issues, individual members and clergy can and do frequently disagree with the stated position of the Church. Over the past few years an increasing number of individual parishes, as well as six entire Dioceses, have terminated their association with The Episcopal Church citing changes in its policies from traditional and historical Anglicanism as well as biblical teaching.

The Episcopal Church ordains women to the priesthood as well as the diaconate and the episcopate. The current Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church is Katharine Jefferts Schori, the first female Primate in the Anglican Communion......... On July 14, 2009, the Episcopal Church’s House of Bishops voted that “any ordained ministry” is open to gay men and lesbians.

Then why is the GOP embracing gay marriage?

Does the GOP really, truly believe that granting amnesty will bring a major rush of hispanics to our side? They did not learn anything from 1986? Are they really that stupid?

Come and get it world! The US and the tax slave labor of it’s people is up for sale by your fellow citizen (no matter what country in which you were born) Rand Paul.

It would be cheaper to ship Rand and Rubio to Mexico.

I’m not sure how to react to this old posting.

Rand Paul is in favor of “immigration reform” but at least he wants to balance the budget in five years.

Business as usual GOP politicians like Pat Toomey and Paul Ryan say they want to balance the budget in ten years.

I’m listening to what everyone is saying and taking notes.

I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY RINO’S FOR ANYTHING INCLUDING THE ONES WHO WILL BE DESCRIBED BY WASHINGTON BASED LOBBYISTS AS PRO-LIFE AND PRO-SECOND AMENDMENT WHEN THE TIME FOR A GENERAL ELECTION COMES.

RUBIO, BUSH AND OTHER ONES FIT THAT CATEGORY OF BUSINESS AS USUAL POLITICIANS....

So an article that was published in March, one month ago is now an "old posting"?

So how is Rand Paul going to balance the budget in 5 years when he keeps adding 2 million new below the poverty line Undocumented Democrats to the voting booth?

And before you say it, he may not be automatically granting them citizenship, but with his plan, he removing all the roadblocks to these leeches becoming citizens and having voting rights.

So now, each and every year, he legalizes 2 million more undocumented Democrats who are now able to LEGALLY suck up more and more tax-payer provided social services.

So, I ask you again, how does he plan on compensating for the additional strain on the budget that HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Just one more reason I only give partial support to Libertarian Rand Paul. He can be as off track as his father. When on a short leash he can do some good. Off it he shoots himself in the foot!

Frankly I despise practically every effing senator up there except a handful

they are all a little club of group fellatio kneepadders

they are detestable

jellyfish

I look at this nation today and we are so incredibly lost and screwed up from top down

a strong minority of decent citizens being slowly drowned by stupid dependents who waddle about Walmart and vote for idiots who will say anything to get reeelcted

fat ugly women popping out fatherless kids by the bakers dozen

no leadership

no courage

pander to anything minority

it’s a neurosis as destructive as the great ergot plagues of yesteryear yet totally self inflicted

we will have to one day decide we will not be encumbered by whatever name they call us and rise up and take our land back

and it will cost ...blood

there is no other way at this point

some of ya’ll here keep on fooling yourself

it is just a matter of when

either that or we simply accept defeat

only world leader I see willing to fight for national integrity anywhere in the West....is Putin...and that shows how bad it truly is

Exactly!

As with all of the GOP Senators and Representatives, praise them when they do good, criticize, fight them, denounce them when they refuse to do the right thing.

when they say reform we get something like Obamacare

this immigration bill is 1500 pages the equivalent of an immigration Obamacare that of course will grow government, give amnesty to illegals, and let 100 million more of their relatives in.

look people the problem is these laws, gov creates a problem as the 1965 immigration act another law created this illegal and 3rd world immigration problem , so they say let's fix immigration so then we get an even worse monster to add to our troubles, more gov, another 1500 page law which is not the answer. the answer is to repeal the 1965 immigration act as repealing Obamacare is
