MIT issued an emergency alert at 10:48 on Thursday night reporting shots fired on the university campus. The school newspaper reports, "Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside." That report is backed up by CBS News's Bonney Kapp who reports hearing "officer down" on the police scanner just before the MIT alert went out. For now, details are scarce, but the suspect is on the loose and considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Thanks. One less thing to struggle over! lol
Thanks for the link. At least one loose end tied up!
Beautiful. Thanks.
Very interesting stuff here...another FReeper just shared it with me. I had not seen it before, nor have I seen it posted...
And, as is their fashion, they screwed it up pretty badly.
Not Turkey. Russia. Not Czech. Chechen.
See tag line...
Going back through the thread....wanted to give you kudos..first person to mention Chechens...good job!!
The Russian flag at one of the bomb spots could have been a clue ...
After the fact, saturday, of course. I was referring to the beginning of this thread, when the chase began and we did not know the perps identity. Folks were wondering how the perps being described as middle eastern could look white or be jihadi islamists. The poster I gave kudos to was the first to say the terrorist could be Chechen in the thread during the shoot out.
adding this little tidbit about finding the shootout pressure cooker lid embedded in a car...

“We’re in a gunfight, a serious gunfight. Rounds are going and then all of the sudden they see something being thrown at them and there’s a huge explosion,” Watertown Police Chief Edward Deveau said Saturday of the melee.
The chief said one of the explosives was the same type used during the Boston Marathon attack, and authorities later recovered a pressure cooker lid that had embedded in a car down the street. He said the suspects also tossed two grenades before Tamerlan ran out of ammunition and police tackled him.
Suspect 2: Sunil Tripathi.
Where did you get this info? I thought I heard it on the police scanner. I also thought that I posted the name when I heard it. Now, I can't find my post. I'm wondering if I was too tired to recall correctly. Or, I'm just plain stupid. ;)
I got it from caww.
