MIT: Shooter On Loose; Officer Down

MIT issued an emergency alert at 10:48 on Thursday night reporting shots fired on the university campus. The school newspaper reports, "Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside." That report is backed up by CBS News's Bonney Kapp who reports hearing "officer down" on the police scanner just before the MIT alert went out. For now, details are scarce, but the suspect is on the loose and considered armed and extremely dangerous.

I think they called off the bolo on the CRV, saying it had been found, but I still am seeing and hearing it referred to on threads, and scanners. Also thought I read an all clear on the train situation, but again, I haven't looked for a specific all clear on that one. The weirdest one was the car at Niagara. Through Twitter I happened upon a reporter who was at the scene and he tweeted the whole event and then posted this 3 hours ago - Dave McKinley ‏@DaveMcKinley2 3h .@wgrz cops place items removed by robot from car w/ Mass plates stopped in #NiagaraFalls back into car and are now...now...DRIVING IT AWAY! He then clarified that the police drove it away, but that it was not impounded. I read on another site that the driver was sited with minor traffic violations. Me either.at least we know we are not crazy...lots of us stayed up all night...Lol. I’ve never seen or heard anything like that in my entire life!!

Same here... I have to admit it's all pretty exciting. First all-nighter I've pulled in over ten years...

God bless all members of law enforcement, who I know will eventually prevail and catch this perp.

There was another cop shot last night near the hospital..that is the one I am thinking about. He was shot after the MIT cop was killed and the chase and bedlam had started. I could be wrong.things were moving so fast. Thinking he was found shot after the first perp had been transported to hospital after gun fight.

Police say only papers and personal belongings were found in a car from Massachusetts that was stopped in Niagara Falls this morning...The driver is being charged with minor vehicle and traffic violations.

Ok thanks. My iPad will not let me play audio in the window and surf net at same time but if things heat up I will drag myself downstairs to my PC so I can do that in several windows. Hate that Radio Pro shut down the ap but understand the cops wanting to do that right now.although if the perp is getting help..then shutting down mobile aps is not going to do a bit of good. They can just call him and feed him info from the Internet.

Again--the transit cop was shot during the big shootout that resulted in brother perp getting killed. This is separate from the MIT officer murder shortly after the 7-11 incident.

Makhachkala is the capital of Dagestan.

I need to brush up on my geography. Reporters keep saying Makhachkala is in Russia. I thought Dagestan was its own country.

They were saying they had found the transit cop near the hospital in his patrol car and I had gotten the impression that this was a distance from the running gun battle where the first perp went down in the neighborhood. Utter confusion I guess.

On Scanner: Need to move body from Funeral home. Body has been checked vehicle has been checked. Sounds like it’s the funeral home inside the perimeter, but can’t be sure.

Fairly good summary. I’m still curious about “at some point he abandons the SUV and runs on foot”. It’s now many hours later and still no explanation I have seen of where the vehicle was left and how he escaped and ran with all of the cops and civilian witnesses in the area. One civilian said that the smoke from an explosive set off before the older suspect left his vehicle covered the area.
