MIT issued an emergency alert at 10:48 on Thursday night reporting shots fired on the university campus. The school newspaper reports, "Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside." That report is backed up by CBS News's Bonney Kapp who reports hearing "officer down" on the police scanner just before the MIT alert went out. For now, details are scarce, but the suspect is on the loose and considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Here’s what I don’t understand...if that kid was sending the message re: you killed my brother, so I’ll kill you, or whatever he said - how could the officials not be able to track where that message came from?
There is no doubt he has major help, there is no way that little twerp could elude ALL that manpower for 12+ hours!
I don’t see how that is possible.

The father’s threat to rain hell down on America if we kill him seemed more than the ravings of a mad man. I think there are cells here ready to go active. They do not fear Obama. All these ‘uncles’ that the media keeps finding? Cell members and support.

Someone else was likely sending the messages. They definately were calling in bomb threats to hospitals last night after reports that the older perp was wounded and being sent to hospital. Then they found some transit cop shot near the hospital locks away from the scene if I understood the scanner chatter last night right. Who shot that cop miles away from the active scene?
Once the dust settles I’ll give it a try. I’ll ping you if I find it.

Not the MIT cop. The perps did shoot him. There was another cop shot near the hospital..a transit cop. (I think)..things were moving so fast.
You're welcome, but Pikachu_Dad gets all the credit. He pointed me to the link, and was doing an absolutely stellar job in transcribing the audio from the Boston police scanner several hours ago (when we were all quite bleary-eyed).

You have to listen to a few commercials at the beginning, and others from time to time, but you'll mostly hear the Boston police scanner, uninterrupted. Skip the box that says "Sign up for U Stream".
I’m at Virginia Tech. We’ve done this several times. You learn to pace yourself.
The transit LEO was injured during the shootout that killed the older brother perp.
