Cerberus founder explores bid for Bushmaster gunmaker

(Reuters) - Private equity mogul Stephen Feinberg is exploring a bid for Freedom Group, the Bushmaster rifle manufacturer that his firm, Cerberus Capital Management LP, put up for sale after one of its guns was used in a Connecticut school shooting late last year, three people familiar with the situation said on Tuesday.

Feinberg, along with other senior Cerberus partners, is putting together a consortium to make a "stalking horse" offer, or the floor bid, for Freedom Group, the sources said.

Feinberg has approached other wealthy individuals to join his group, the people said, who declined to be named because the auction is private.

I haven't heard of any direct relationship with Cerberus and Soros. There was a viral that went out a couple of years ago that was totally inaccurate.

The Cerberus principals are actually pro gun. Not that this means anything but Sec of Treasury John Snow (under Bush 2) and Dan Quayle are on Cerberus' board. I haven't done anything with them directly but some of the guys I work with speak highly of them.

If he was smart he would make a bid for Ruger, RGR on the NYSE. The cheapest stock I follow. They are the Apple like leader owning every major category of gun. .22s/Mini 14s/ Revolvers/Autos. And they pay a 3% dividend.
