Maybe I’m just over-thinking, but I think this has all of the hallmarks of people operating under direction from a foreign source.
These bombs did not go off at a moment of maximum opportunity, like at the start of the race or when the first runners came in. The race was already over and only 2 of the total number of bombs worked. That means the people that made them didnt have tons of resources or direction on how to construct the devices, nor did they have any foresight to place the bombs at a time when they could have scored a bigger hit. They seemed to have just got a broad outline on what to do and then had to make it up from there.
If this was a domestic plot, the whole thing would have been tight in its planning and execution because the whole conspiracy would have been here in place to make sure it was done for maximum carnage.
It’s just like 9-11. Those guys made lots of mistakes, easily allowing themselves to be caught because the whole operation was being run on remote control from the other side of the world, leaving the 9-11 goons to have to improvise and fill in the blanks with learning to only take off at flight school or using box cutters. Only our side making more mistakes than they allowed them to to have as much success as they did.
Contrast that to the Unibomber and OKC. The people running the show were the ones doing the deed, and they didnt miss.
Nothing here suggests a leftist or right-wing culprit. The Boston Marathon represents nothing of interest to either side. No statement to be made against the government or a corporation.
But like the London bombings, 9-11, the attack in Indonesia or India, this was a hit at normalcy. Hit something that no one would ever see as a target, but will mess with them enough to disrupt their everyday routine.

You can even toss in the Munich Olympics, and that opera house in Russia.
My money is on a middle east connection.
