Over the weekend, in a move that may shock the gun community, one of the most powerful and influential pro-gun organizations publicly endorsed the universal background check amendment drafted by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
The Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms announced that it would back the Manchin-Toomey UBC legislation; a bipartisan amendment that expands background checks to gun purchases made over the Internet and eliminates the so-called gun-show loophole.
We decided to back it because we believe it is the right thing to do, Julianne Versnel, director of operations for the CCRKBA, told the Washington Post.
Alan Gottlieb, the chairman of the CCRKBA, blasted out an email to the groups 650,000 members on Sunday explaining in greater detail why they opted to support the Manchin-Toomey compromise.
If you read the Manchin-Toomey substitute amendment, you can see all the advances for our cause that it contains, Gottlieb wrote.
Gottlieb then pitched the specific perks the amendment contains: interstate sales of handguns, veteran gun rights restoration, travel with firearms protection, civil and criminal immunity lawsuit protection, and most important of all, the guarantee that people, including federal officers, will go to federal prison for up to 15 years if they attempt to use any gun sales records to set up a gun registry.

They are smaller than the NRA but bigger than the GOA, as I recall. About 10 percent of the membership of the NRA, but a much more focused and politically active membership.
Yes, the MSM never wants to give any coverage to any pro-rights group but the NRA. It disrupts their agenda.
You postto Perdogg - : “Is this accurate, (re”Schummer is sgainst it now”)or are you being sarcastic? “
GOOGLE is your FRIEND -
Is this accurate, or are you being sarcastic?
I’ve googled it and haven’t seen a report that Schumer is now against it. Do you have a link that shows he is? If so, please post it. Thanks.

instead of speculating off the top of your head - even tho’ GOGGLE is at your fingertips - whyn’t ya read DBrow’s post #56 regarding Gottlieb/CCCRK?
Here, I'll save you even the trouble of going back to #56 - HERE is DBrow’s post. (I think it behooves anyone, particularly Freepers, to be careful about maligning people thru' sheer, uneducated, ‘off the top of the head’ speculation? We should remember that anything printed on line about ANYONE is out in cyberland FOREVER - and others down the line doing a search may believe the disinformation. I don't think we want such spurious information posted on ourselves? - This does a disservice to FR.)

The above sounds like an awful lot just to create a shill organization? We need to be careful not to denigrate those on our side. And amybe we shouldn't assume that becasue "I've never heard of him/them, that they aren't who they purport to be. There just MIGHT be some things we don't know?
Thanks, Maine-iac! Nice to know someone read it!
BS, they are nobody.
This is like the “hunter group” that was a scam.
or the magazine writer who turned out to be a big second amendment fraud.
Saw an image today with vido of giffords walking. Kelly seems to be using his situation a a springboard to a career in politics. (again disgrace of an astraunaught, is his ilk the reason the space program is finished?)
MSNBC will be having tinglegasms tonight.
Then perhaps you aren’t as well informed as you think you are.

Rubio, immigration aside, was on morning tv talking about unversal MANDATORY acceptance of ccw licenses across state lines like drivers lisences.
The problem with this kind of clever legislation is the “good” parts eventually get thrown out.
That’s what I thought. Schumer’s opposition is to CCW reciprocity, not to Toomey-Mancin which, in its unamended form, does not contain reciprocity.
