Staple foods will more than double in price by 2050 from extreme temperatures, floods and droughts that will transform the way the world farms.
As food experts gather to discuss how to feed the nine billion people expected in 2050, leading scientists state that food insecurity risks turning parts of Africa into permanent disaster areas. Rising temperatures will drastically affect access to basic foodstuffs:
"Food production will have to rise 60% by 2050 just to keep pace with expected global population increase and changing demand. The annual production gains we have come to expect will be taken away by climate change. We are worried about the vulnerability of the one billion people who are without food already and who will be hit hardest by climate change."
The draft US National Climate Assessment report predicts that a gradually warming climate and unpredictable severe weather will have serious consequences for farmers.
All crops will be affected by the temperature shift as well as livestock and fruit harvests, with more pests and less effective herbicides. The $50bn Californian wine industry could shrink as much as 70% by 2050.
The report follows recent disastrous harvests in Russia, Ukraine, Australia and the US. In 2010, climate-driven factors led to a 33% drop in wheat production in Russia and a 19% drop in Ukraine. Separate climate events in each case led to a 14% drop in Canada's wheat output, and a 9% drop in Australia.
The UN's World Food Programme director, said: "Climate change is the game changer that increases exposure to high and volatile food prices, and increases the vulnerability of the hungry poor, especially those living in conflict zones or areas of marginal agricultural productivity. We must act quickly to protect the world's poorest people."

Find out who those scientists are and then give them Zero credibility for the rest of their lives.
History shows that during periods of General warming there was more food- Not less. Droughts are caused by other factors and run in cycles of just a few years.
Then there is the problem that warming is not actually happening right now.
As far as the cost of Food. I believe it has already just about doubled since the current administration took office. And it is was caused by warming that is for sure. It was caused by bankers and government.
“Does anyone keep track of these idiots predictions and hold them accountable”
You mean like that time magazine article from the 70’s that said we were heading into an ice age.
Putting it mildly! A significantly warmer earth will expand the agricultural areas of Canada and Siberia to an enormous extent.
Actually, when the Chinese take over, they will teach the Africans how to plant GM food, use chemical fertilizers, and probably spray DDT to get rid of the tsetse fly so they can convert the savannah with all those animals beloved of National Geographic into farms which the National Geographic hates.
The high veldt in Africa could be a bread basket, but the Europeans discouraged the green revolution etc. The Chinese need the resources, so will develop them (and steal them) making locals rich.
The economic changes in Africa in the last ten years rarely hit the MSM, but things are changing for the better.
Climate change is not a “hoax”: climate changes all the time. Medieval warm period, the collapse of the old Kingdom of Egypt, the Bronze age collapse, the year without the summer, etc.
The real question is if we are entering a warm period (maybe as warm as during the Roman empire, when they grew grapes and had palm trees in England) or if we are entering a “little ice age” like the one that preceded the Black Death...
and pollution is also a problem.
But these bozos are making propaganda to establish a one world order. And that scares me.
Of course, it does.
I should have been more specific: i.e., AGW (anthropogenic global warming) is a HOAX!
And "pollution" -- while it may be a problem -- is not related to the phenomenon of "climate change".
Headline properly translated: “Millions face starvation if a One World Government doesn’t tax the living crap out of everyone.”
Global Warming on Free Republic
ROTFLMAO!!
I just hate these predictions!
Now I don’t know whether to invest in long foodstuff production, or in carbon credits.
Maybe I’ll just have to move some gold high into the mountains so the high water won’t gobble it up!
60-80 thousand years of serious glaciation would cool mankind’s jets quite a bit wouldn’t it? Can you imagine what it would take to drill for oil and gas with 1-3 mile thick ice caps over the land? And boy would we need it!
Try to convince an eco-wacko of that!
