More than 100 passengers had a miracle escape today after a plane overshot a runway off the coast of Bali and crashed into the sea.
Eyewitnesses said passengers fearing for their lives screamed in panic as the Lion Air jet overshot the runway at Ngurah Rai Airport, near Denparsar.
The aircraft, carrying 101 passengers and seven crew members - then fell into the sea from a height of about 50 metres.

Yep, a few rivets and some aluminum strips and that baby will be good as new.
Where is Carfax for airliners when you need it?
“It’s like new” their ad on Craiglist says
Now we know why an airline with 92 planes has orders for 543 more.
“FOR SALE: One low-hour Boeing 737-800 with winglets, one owner, new paint, new upholstery, new brakes, minor scuff damage. Contact Lion Air, Jakarta.”

I bet that will be a long wait at the baggage carousel....
“Which makes no sense...”
Practicing backward landings?
So... how many people didn’t ‘wait’ ?
You forgot the mop.
Yet... a way was found.
Isn't that what they are standing on ? Those people at the rear section aren't standing on a wing.
Looks to me like they ‘plopped’ into exactly the right spot.
Any landing you can walk away from , is a good one.
Probably not really 'wild'.
Looking at posts 6 again, and at 21, and I don’t see any anyone standing on anything. And I certainly don’t see any bright yellow slides in either picture. Clicking on the link, I do see folks standing on the wing, and some folks wading through the water toward shore. One picture seems to show a couple of empty boats of differing sizes pulled up to the front doors.
If the rear slides had deployed, the folks wouldn’t have to wade - the one on the right side would have about reached to shore.
This has nothing to do with that the pilots were Indian.
However, why aren't local pilots being used on a domestic flight?
Wouldn't they have far more knowledge of the airport?
Moreover, wouldn't they be cheaper?
Yeah, that’ll buff right out.
HOPELESS reporting!
The aircraft did not overshoot. It crashed on APPROACH, short of the runway. Wind shear is possible cause.
The slides were deployed, and used as rafts to carry survivors to the shore. The aircraft, still afloat, was towed in and beached.
Truly a miracle that nobody was killed.
That’s not funny. I sold a 747-300 (we had just upgraded to the -400 and wanted to sell fast to cover our costs and pay down the loan). I listed it on Craigslist and had about 150 offers in under 5 minutes. After sorting the Nigrian Princes from the pretenders I negotiated a deal.
Guy wanted a test flight and so we agreed. He came out, kicked the tires and loved it. I turned over the title, signed it and he handed me a cashiers check. Off he flies into the sunset.
My banker calls me a day later. It was a fraudulent check. Lesson learned. Next time: Paypal.
ouch!
