The city of New Rochelle, N.Y., has removed the historic Gadsden Dont Tread On Me flag from a military armory, deeming the flag too partisan because it often is used by the tea party movement.
And in response, veterans groups have tapped the Thomas More Law Center to take up the fight.
It was after an official ceremony on March 21 at the New Rochelle Armory that a new American flag was unfurled to replace the previous weathered flag that flew at the location. Beneath the new American flag, the yellow Gadsden Flag was flown, as is common tradition on many military sites.
However, within a week of the ceremony, City Manager Chuck Strome ordered the Gadsden flag be taken down because of unidentified complaints that the flag was a symbol of the tea party movement.
Peter Parente, president of the United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association of New Rochelle, sent Strome links to the history of the flag so he decided to allow it to remain.
But the city council then stepped in, voting 5-2 to order the flag to be removed.
The five members who voted to uphold its removal were Democrats, while the two voting to reinstate the flag were Republicans.
That same day, the public works department removed the flag.
Now the flag fight is headed to court.

Their programs when enacted against this nation result in the rich getting poorer and poorer relegated to as low a position as possible: panhandlers.
Now these weasels that run New Rochelle have banished an historical symbol that represents a period of time when Americans were brave, proud and not afraid of the dark!
A pox on the rats who have infected this city's government.
The irony, it hurts ping.
No doubt, the hammer and sickle would be most welcome.
God bless the Tea Party.
too partisan”
Loosely translated: “Offends liberals”
Are we to believe that the "other" side wants to be controlled & ruled over?
Ban the Constitution. It’s too partisan.
When history becomes "offensive," just change the history books.
The Democrats—all Democrats—are the enemies of freedom.
That is the unvarnished truth.
Damn right wing nutjobs... /s
...hope the patriotic residents of New Rochelle buy some to fly on the cars and pick ups and be sure to “remind” their reps to lower the flag EVERY TIME the governor orders flags flown at half mast.... (one of my pet peeves)...local towns around me “forget” once in a while.
Really? I didn't know that. Time to buy a Gadsden flag.

Who was removed from that photo with Stalin?
Uhhhh, I believe the Gadsden flag is political speech and protected by the 1st Amendment. I’m sure there has been some mistake here! /s
_Perhaps the time has come for civil disobedience. Ignore their law and raise even more Gadsden flags.
Well, since they're proactively trying to take the 2A away, there's nothing to stop them from taking the first away.
God help us all.
The Gadsden Flag was actually the very first flag that American troops fought under in 1775 (soon after replaced by Old Glory).
“In 1775, the Continental Congress issued an order calling for five companies of Marines to be created. It was reported that some of the Marines that enlisted that month in Philadelphia carried drums painted yellow, emblazoned with a fierce rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike with 13 rattles, and sporting a motto Dont Tread On Me. “
The Democrats—all Democrats—are the enemies of freedom.
That is the unvarnished truth.
Dear City Council,
Define “too partisan”!
YOU are banished!
Let’s look around town and find a few liberal signs which are “too partisan”.
How about a Union sign?
Here’s hoping that local patriots will repeatedly apply Gadsen flag stickers to the bumpers of those five democrats’ cars.
