Zombies vs. Jesus
Townhall.com ^ | April 5, 2013 | Bill O'Reilly

On Easter Sunday evening, a TV show about good and evil aired on the History Channel -- the final installment of "The Bible" miniseries in which Jesus is executed. AMC ran the season-ending episode of "The Walking Dead" -- the series where zombies try to eat the brains of human beings. One footnote: The world might have been a better place had the zombies preemptively gotten to the guy who thought up this series in the first place.

Anyway, the zombies won. They beat Jesus in the ratings, especially among viewers ages 18 to 49.

What lesson can be derived from Jesus losing to the walking dead? Well, it proves that about 12 million Americans want to see blood and gore. Wait -- there was plenty of that in the Bible's crucifixion scenes. Maybe the zombie viewers simply wanted cheap thrills. Yeah, that's it. Cheap thrills triumphed over a spiritual experience. Cannibalism beat baptism.

Base entertainment almost always beats highbrow stuff. But watching flesh-eating zombies on Easter does put a different spin on things, does it not? I mean, how soon can we digest dismemberment on television after eating our baked ham dinner? One hour? Two?

At least Jesus was in context. The New Testament says the son of God rose from the dead on Easter. The zombies rise from the dead whenever their makeup is finished.

Honestly, I have no idea what this zombie phenomenon is all about. Way back in the 1960s, I saw the first modern zombie movie: "Night of the Living Dead." Things were creeping along OK until a little girl turned into a zombie and tried to eat her mom. At that point, my entire group decided enough was enough, and we bolted out of the theater.

But today that scene would be tame. Now zombie kids will eat their entire families if given the opportunity. Depravity doesn't even begin to cover it. Apparently, we Americans have an unending appetite for gross behavior. Pun intended.

What must Jesus think? Here he is, being nailed to the cross by smirking Romans and getting trounced by TV zombies at the same time. The prince of peace preached that we all should love our neighbors as ourselves. I do not believe that Jesus would condone eating your neighbor even if you are dead.

Many folks who like this zombie business freely admit it's a low form of entertainment. "But so what?" they say. It's fun to envision yourself outsmarting zombies, blasting them to hell with shotguns and then escaping to some tattoo parlor. I guess that's fun in some precincts.

But not for me. I threw in with Jesus even though the guy who played him looked a bit like Spicoli in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Sure, I knew how the miniseries was going to end, but there are worse things you could do on Easter Sunday -- like watching man-eating zombies.

All I know is this: When Jesus appeared to the apostles after he died, thank God they did not have access to AMC.

“A little hormonal this afternoon?”...

Yes, I think you are just a bit hormonal this afternoon—or perhaps on meth. With all your flailing about attacking your fellow FReepers, surely you can find someone besides me to address?

it is because of many in here that that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave was elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012.

Yeah, the GOP is never at fault. /s

Those quotes/graphics are great. But who said the one about “getting jammed up behind me and getting me killed”?

That’s Glenn. I think it comes from an episode in season 1 where they were trying to find a way out of Atlanta through the sewers/flood gates. “Guts” I think is the episode name.

Need one for Merle that says “Lookie here ya’ll, she sent us a biter gram” or “He’ll be hungry again in an hour anyway.”

LOL, I loved the “biter-gram” line. I sure wish Merle hadn’t been killed off.

Thanks for the heads-up about the Nerdist. We’ll be watching.

First of all, I have no claim, love for, nor affiiation with either Rove or any of the traitorous GOP-e.

>>If you want...<<

Second of all, “if you want” an absolute America-hating, baby-killing, Communist Kenyan packer...don’t show up on election day.

It would have been plausible, and a lot shorter trip back to reality from a “RINO-win” than from where we’re at today. You tell me if it’s even possible.

The “conservatives” have done nothing to combat wholesale RAT ownership of: the “news media” the entertainment industry, bureaucratic government, “education” etc, and the packer take-over of practically everything...except the Boy Scouts.

You look at the real unemployment numbers, the people in poverty and on food stamps, the destruction of health insurance carriers and the provider network...the best healthcare system in the world, the destruction of the military, the energy sector, the auto industry, manufacturing in general, the lending industry, the housing industry, the destruction of our currency and confiscation of our wealth...and tell me the same thing would have happened...

...UNDER ANY given RINO!

It looks to me like these low information “conservatives” should have put their country first, their personal preferences second, and completely forgotten about the political brand.

The reason I put “conservatives” in quotes, is because they have succeeded in “conserving” NOTHING!

(except Obama)

I have written this before; but, I'll repeat. I and my hubby are NOT fans of the zombie genre. We watch The Walking Dead. Why?

Well, the story is basically about total societal collapse. Now, it is couched in Zombie Lore; but, it is about what happens when disaster strikes and humans are left to deal with the disaster and each other without an outside authority. This is engrossing. Yes, there is blood, and gore and zombies; but, there is also a very engaging story with characters written (and acted) in such a way that you care about what happens to them.

When I first suggested to my hubby that we try the first season of The Walking Dead (which was on Netflix), he gave me a very strange look. Now, it is one of the few shows we look forward to. BOR has not been keeping up with what has been happening with this show. It now beats primetime shows on the major networks with regularity; and, this episode was the season finale. That means a lot of people were going to tune in.

So, speaking from my own experience, The Walking Dead needs to be experienced before dismissing it simply because of the subject matter.

Neither do I. But there is still a very significant number of freepers who do have such issues.

If you like I can point you to threads where I’m accused of being anti-Christian or secretly liberal simply because I don’t go along with hyperbolic anti-Mormonism. I have no problem with reasonable disagreement over doctrines or practices, but not with making stuff up. Everybody has a right to his own opinions, but not to his own facts.

Same with being anti-Muslim, BTW. There is plenty of bad stuff that is entirely truthful to say about Islam, and to a much lesser extent Mormonism, without inventing things. In fact, I contend that making up easily disproven claims weakens the case against a group. When shown that some of your claims are untrue, stupid people assume the others must be equally false.

I’m the same way about zombie flicks, they’ve never interested me much before but TWD definitely takes it in a different direction.

The show treats conservatives very well including some strongly religious characters.

Maybe BOR has found his calling as Roger Ebert’s self righteous replacement.

I'm taking it up with those who actually did it...the non-voting conservative Einsteins. They also could have changed the personnel of the GOP. You can wear that Obama label with pride.

When John Mclame ran I held my nose and voted for the B@$T@RD, half hoping that he would keel over at the inauguration and Palin would step right in.

When Romney ran I was going to sit out due to his lack of conservatism but again voted under ticket.

I garundamntee you the next time I will sit out unless the top of the ticket is a conservative.

I am sick and tired of wasting a vote on repubics posing as conservatives

With the sustained attack on conservative coming out of the GOP, they must be real morons thinking we’ll just continue breaking down and voting for them.

When Michigan RNC committeeman Dave Agema quoted a writer who was himself quoting someone else about gays, nobody noticed or cared but a “moderate republican” blogger ran to his liberal friends in the media with every intent for them to attack. He wants to put the progressive Saul Anuzis back in that RNC chair and makes no secret of it.

Kinda funny how Kapo Karl Rove can make fried chicken jokes with Donna Brazile without a peep from the media or the “moderates”. If a conservative had done that you can bet the Kapo “conservatives” would be leading the charge to get rid of them.

Moderates are nothing but lying, manipulative, bottom feeding, scum. The GOP has been moderated into a coma and the Kapos are pinching the feeding tube as the democrats goose step into full on fascism right outside the door.

>>McLame, Romney, held nose<<

Yeah, me too.

I liked Perry, Newt needs to be brilliant behind the scenes, Bachmann (I’m a tax attorney with 21 foster kids) needed him as a coach.

I really liked Herman Cain.

Most good people won’t step up because the RATs WILL destroy them (Palin) although the candidates did a pretty good job of destroying themselves.

The various state parties need to get rid of open primaries so the RATs and undies can’t pick our candidates. More TEApublicans need to get elected, both in Congress and at the RNC.

“Conservatives” need to get busy on the ground war or there will be nothing to save.
