Re: the disability scam (this article looks at one county in Alabama where one in four adults is on disability: http://apps.npr.org/unfit-for-work/), at least nine out of 10 such cases could take back an Indian outsourcing job by doing call center work from home—and probably six out of 10 could do more than that.
Some years ago I worked in an empoyment agency. We would call people asking them to interview for $10/hour jobs.
The most common response was “Why would I want to do that when I’m making almost that much staying home and collecting unemployment?”
And let me assure you that a LARGE number of them are working “under the table”, double-dipping, as bartenders, waitresses, painters, landscapers, movers, etc.
They don’t even think there’s anything wrong with it. And we don’t enforce it.
