FBI Director Robert Mueller protested Tuesday that the steep rise in requests for background checks for gun purchases since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School could be a problem because of the cuts imposed by sequestration.
Background check requests from licensed gun dealers have risen by 50%, from an average of 54,000 each day to 81,000 every day since Sandy Hook. As a result, the FBI has expanded its staff of 300 to 500 so the background checks can be finished in three days.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Weird how the sequester hasn’t had any effect on the EPA.
“Steep rise in background checks”? I read here yesterday that gun ownership in the U.S. is on the decline.
Then they should bring theirs.
Ooh. Ooh. Tell you what, let's just disband the FBI. Ok Private Citizen Meuller?
I say call them on it all the way down the line. That's essentially what's happening, isn't it? I hope so.
Waiting for an article blaming global warming this week (the start of spring) on the sequester.
I think you may have the newest hash tag for Twitter: #SEQUESTER!
Snow fall has been lighter than usual this year. #SEQUESTER
Love it...
Ran out of toilet paper #SEQUESTER
Apparently we’re not the first. There seems to be a fairly vibrant #sequester thread going there. LOL
Naturally :)
I wasn’t able to log in to Twitter in time to coin the hashtag #sequester. #SEQUESTER
Utter BS. The records now are electronic - each check takes seconds.

I had been wondering which way Mueller would go...and like a good hack, a CYA kinda guy, he went to the dark side. So much for his honorable place in the history books. And that list of names will be long.
Yes, definitely the sequester, since we are only spending a little more money than last year, they can only do a small fraction of what they did last year
This might be believable if they were all like the Pentagon and most all GS employees were pulling twenty-two Fridays in a row off. But oddly enough....the Pentagon is about the only place with 22 days of furlough. Most are like ten to fourteen. A number of them are doing zero.
Somewhere in July, I expect this odd episode to occur where the agencies all stand up and admit in public that when 1 October comes....it’ll take additional weeks to ramp back up to a full 100-percent. We won’t be at full-strength until mid-November at the earliest. At that point, most everyone will laughing over the comic operations of the US government.
They have obviously had all this, the sky is falling because of the sequester, well planned out for some time. They have every dept. of govt. all set to claim they are all gonna die because we dared to cut the budget a little over 1%.
Meanwhile, we stand in the corner sucking our thumbs and wondering what they will hit us with next. Our leader Rence Priebus and the rest of the rinos in charge are all worried over how we offended every voter group the rats already have sewn up while we get destroyed politically on every issue there is.
We need to learn its all politics with them and if we want to be in the game, even viable, we better learn what they are up to next and how to counter it.
They already have us figured out. They know how we will react to everything since we are so predictable and count on us always doing the wrong thing. We always oblige.
