In what was one of the last mysteries of the 2012 presidential campaign, the worker who taped Mitt Romney saying at a private fundraiser that 47 percent of Americans are too dependent on government is finally coming forward.
While the man has still not been publicly identified, the Huffington Post reports it was a bartender working at the event who taped Romney. The man will give his first public interview to MSNBCs The Ed Show on Wednesday night.
The bartender tells the Huffington Post he had brought the camera to the event after working a previous fundraiser where former President Bill Clinton had come backstage and posed for photos with the staff. Thinking Romney might do the same, the bartender brought along his Canon camera.
But Romney, who was running late, did not speak to the staff. The bartender decided to tape the GOP candidates remarks but tells MSNBC he debated about whether to make it public. While Romney had told guests at the event that his remarks were off the record, he had not made the same admonition to those working at the event.
In the end I really felt like it had to be put out, the bartender tells MSNBC. I felt I owed it to the people that couldnt afford to be there themselves to hear what he really thought.
Romney's remarks were taped at a May 2012 fundraiser in Florida. In the video, which was made public by Mother Jones last September, Romney was taped telling supporters that backers of President Barack Obama are 'victims' and dependent on the government.
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney said. "There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon......

Does not matter. He could have taped Romney saying “the sun comes up in the East”, and the media would have successfully spun that into “he’s an arrogant elitist who hates working people”.
Exactly...the bad thing is we too will suffer due to the voters’ greed and stupidity...
Did you notice the CEO of Five Guys burgers recently stated most of his workers had NO idea the ramifications of Obamacare?
God help us....
Honest, but incredibly politically tone deaf.
His reply was I won. What he didn’t say was he won by 108% in some counties.
The new working class hero and his 15, no, 5 minutes of fame!
Yeah. The horse’s a___.
Horse's ass is more like it. Guy's an absolute loon.
So, he skates on a technicality. He needs to be fired.
In the end I really felt like it had to be put out, the bartender tells MSNBC. I felt I owed it to the people that couldnt afford to be there themselves to hear what he really thought.
So, he disagreed with the candidate's point of view, and he "leaked" the video. He needs to be fired and blacklisted.
Doesn’t change the fact that Rule One of Politics is “Nothing is ever ‘off the record’”
Correct, my opinion as well. But this barkeep was working (IOW on his employer’s dime) and chose to record and leak something he knew would embarrass the candidate on work hours. Unless his employer thinks that’s just dandy, he needs walking papers.
“Telling the truth doesnt work in this country anymore .”
That’s a very interesting statement.
I think the reality is, that the country has become so divided that there are no longer “shared truths” that are accepted by both sides.
Indeed, many of the “truths” that our side accepts as “givens”, are denied and denigrated by the other side. The concept of “marriage” for one — two sides, diametrically opposed, with no reconciliation possible because either side believes in an entirely different “set of truths”.
So.. to get back to your original statement above “telling the truth” may work — but ONLY for that half of the population that is predisposed towards _your_ “truths”.
The other side is not, and in reality probably regard the “truths” that you believe you are telling, to be lies .
Oh, but Obama is ready for prime time, we’re all going to sink under the weight of Obamacare. Anyone who did not do everything possible to stop Obama hates their country and embraces socialism. We are in deep doo doo. We are in a very serious situation.
We now are at the mercy of House Republicans, whatever they can do. Ryan is trying to defund it but how can that happen with a RAT Senate and this dictator in the WH? Folks, this is serious.
Frankly, I don’t blame the guy for leaking it, I blame the idiotic voters of the US who thought there was anything wrong with what Romney said. Romney spoke the truth and the American electorate is so stupid they don’t know the truth when they hear it.
Yes, that’s true. But nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of “the people.”
This ignorance is killing us—literally. Have you been listening to Rush today talk about Obamacare. This is not even realistic—no one can understand this and comply with it. I really wish I could leave the US but unfortuantely, I own a house. Obama is crushing us under the weight of Obamacare with no end in sight.
They’re dragging us down with them, and that’s pi$$ing me off.
We must convince EVERYONE possible that it is in each person’s own best interest to defeat liberalism. I can’t imagine there is any segment of the population that will likely benefit from this tyrant who is oppressing this country. Everyone is going to suffer and maybe, just maybe enough will wake up to the fact that Democrats/liberals are destructive. This is very, very serious.
Romney admits that it was stupid, and nonsensical.
Can you define who or what the 47% is?
