MADISON The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction runs several programs that heavily emphasize racial issues in public schools.
white privilege and prejudiceSome feel that one of those programs an Americorps operation called VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) may go a bit overboard by encouraging white students to wear a white wristband as a reminder about your (white) privilege.
Geared towards high school students, the program seeks to build capacity in schools and districts serving low-income families to develop an effective, sustainable, research-based program of family-school-community partnerships, according to its Facebook page.
That sounds reasonable enough.
But the programs approach becomes a bit suspect when one reads the Gloria Steinem quote on the top of its webpage: The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.
The webpage also offers a series of suggestions for high schools students to become more racially sensitive. They include:
Wear a white wristband as a reminder about your privilege, and as a personal commitment to explain why you wear the wristband.
Set aside sections of the day to critically examine how privilege is working.
Put a note on your mirror or computer screen as a reminder to think about privilege.
The Wisconsin DPI also sponsors several similar programs, including CREATE Wisconsin, an on-going cultural sensitivity teacher training program which focuses largely on whiteness and white privilege.
EAGnews will be exposing more about that program in a film documentary titled, RE-CREATING AMERICA: Cultural Sensitivity in Wisconsin Schools, along with a two-day written series on the same topic, beginning Monday.
Will DPIs obsession with race and white privilege actually translate into better educational outcomes for all students? Not likely.
But it will continue to divide the state by race and income status, and allow bureaucrats to make a case for more government funding so they can create a different type of America.
Wisconsin taxpayers really ought to be paying more attention to how their education dollars are spent.
I suppose that’s next, but I think the socialists will be wearing a star, or a hammer and sickle, and I’ll be wearing a cross.
So wait - does that mean AmeriCorpse is giving them “White Power” bracelets?
The stupidity has come full circle.
Here’s what good parents would ask their kids:
“If we have WHITE privilege then why is Obama POTUS?”
I’ll wear my white armband if the Jewish folks wear yellow Stars of David on their chests, since Ms. Steinem seems to be the one who thought this one up.
Have someone call them “white pride” wristbands, and the educrats in charge will immediately scurry back down their holes
In November, 1969, during the “Moratorium” protest against the Vietnam War, protest leaders urged those opposed to the war to wear black arm bands. However, I went to a football game wearing a red, white and blue arm band, just like the one illustrated, to protest the protesters.
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 6:8-9 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
Colossians 3:10-11 King James Version And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
These people should wear dunce hats.
Methinks that the race baiters and hate mongers seek to perpetuate the "white guilt" thing because 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation white folk do not have a clue about "down for the struggle" and frankly do not give a hoot. IOW, the left is losing their grip.
All of our success is a result of these characteristics. Without these traits and you can not create or sustain a modern civilization. You get Liberia, Detroit, Caracas,San Pedro Sula, Port Moresby or you're living in the Stone Age, as many people still do.
These traits are not exclusive to Whites or distributed evenly, of course, but we are the only ones that are excoriated for having them. Nobody is shaming the Japanese for having Japanese Privilege in Japan, or the Koreans for having Korean Privilege in Korea.
This White Privilege nonsense is all propaganda designed to beat down White people psychologically so its easier to extract the wealth we create and deny the freedom we demand.
I need one of those wristbands to put on my assault rifle.
The first thing that hit me when I heard this wrist band thing was that was what the NAZI’s did to the Jews.
This is very scary to me and should be getting more visibility than it has.
I was thinking more like “White Man’s Burden.”
Take up the White Mans burden
And reap his old reward:
The blame of those ye better
The hate of those ye guard
The cry of hosts ye humour
(Ah slowly) to the light:
“Why brought ye us from bondage,
Our loved Egyptian night?
What “white privilege” are they talking about?
Try getting a government grant to attend college when you’re a white male. DENIED.
When I went to college in the early 1980’s, I didn’t qualify for ANY financial assistance because I’m a WHITE MALE. It was a very nice black lady in the financial assistance office who told me so, very plainly. I’ll never forget it. In her words had I been a black male, female or other minority I’d have gotten a fully funded ride thru college back then.
Instead I worked four jobs for 3.5 years and had less than $10k in debt from two student loans when I graduated.
Again, WHAT WHITE PRIVILEGE? We white males, specially those of us 50 years old or older are made to be pariahs in this workforce. I pray I don’t lose my job out of fear I will never find another one that pays as well.
