Let's turn these numbers around for a moment. It's assumed there are at least 80 million gun owners in America (probably more, now). What's 1.6 billion divided by 80 million? It's only 20. The feds have bought 20 rounds for each gun owner out there. If even 20% of the gun owners out there were looking for 100 rounds of ammo each, they'd drop the stocks by what the fed has done. That simply doesn't explain the current shortage away. I think the real cause of the shortage is gun owners (and non-owners who see a quick cash-making opportunity) who are likely buying up what they can, when they can.
