A Michigan elementary school is defending its decision to confiscate a third-graders batch of homemade cupcakes because the birthday treats were decorated with plastic green Army soldiers.
Casey Fountain tells me that the principal of his son's elementary school called the cupcakes "insensitive" -- in light of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
"It disgusted me," he said. "It's vile they lump true American heroes with psychopathic killers."
Fountain's wife made a batch of 30 chocolate cupcakes for their son Hunter's classmates at Schall Elementary School in the town of Caro. The 9-year-old helped decorate the treats with plastic figurines representing World War Two soldiers.
The following morning Fountain said his wife delivered the cupcakes to the front office. The secretary complimented her on the decorations and then took the cakes to Hunter's class.
"About 15 minutes later the school called my wife and told her the couldn't serve the cupcakes because the soldiers had guns," Fountain said. "My wife told them to remove the soldiers and serve the cupcakes anyway -- and I believe she may have used more colorful language."
The school complied and confiscated the soldiers -- sending them home with Hunter in a bag.
"I was offended," Fountain said. "I support our soldiers and what they stand for. These (plastic soldiers) are representations of World War Two soldiers - our greatest generation. If they aren't allowed in our schools -- who is?"
Principal Susan Wright released a statement to local media defending the decision.
"These are toys that were commonplace in the past," she wrote. "However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student."
"Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions," she stated. "In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere."
Fountain said it was beyond outrageous to compare American soldiers to deranged mass murderers.

I once private FRmailed someone about a word they had misused. I thought they would want to know that the word imply was what they meant rather than the word infer. If I had been making that kind of error I certainly would want to know.
Their response made it clear. They did NOT want to know. LOL

Unfortunately, there are a number of participants whose self-image is so poor that merely correcting their grammar or word usage is taken as a blow to the ego, rather than just responding,"You know, you were right and I was wrong. Thanks!"
It gets worse when you find that not only their spelling, but their thinking is also askew, for the same reason -- lack of precision in attention to detail.

I once went around the dance floor with a FReeper over the subtle propaganda in the statement: "Most pedophiles are heterosexuals." I stated as much, and told him the proper word was "pederast" (boy-raper).
He then accused me of being a gay activist.
On the other hand, there seem to be no small number of responders whose thinking and compassion has not particularly been hindered by their schooling. They also have my respect.

WHILE YOU FOLKS WERE DOING OTHER STUFF, AND NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT YOUR SCHOOLS WERE TEACHING YOUR KIDS, THE LEFT WAS ORGANIZED AND READY TO INFILTRATE THE SCHOOL BOARD, AND PUT FORTH THEIR SOCIALIST AGENDA, AND PRESTO! YOUR KIDS ARE NOW BEING INDOCTRINATED WITH PRO-SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST/MARXIST BULLSHI*T. In the meantime, get together with others and devise some alternative system for home schooling your kids...perhaps hire a teacher to teach your kids. If you're not able to do so at home because you are employed, hire a retired teacher who will teach your children. Or send your children to parochial schoos instead, making sure that the curriculum is based on the Constitution, liberty, freedom and rights.
Pass this information along, and encourage other parents to join forces with you. It will be up to you parents to do what is right, and it will require you to sacrifice. This is not something to make commentary over, and then it's on to another FReeper posting. THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION, NOW!
GET OUT THERE PARENTS, SAVE YOUR CHILDREN, DO IT NOW! AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
Hey FREEPERS..why don't we put forth some constructive commentary on what parents must do to save their children and this great country from total control of the left, rather than just making some flip comments, attempts at humor, and then moving on.

I heard that, and posted a thread about it. People knock him for being a Mormon, but as far as I can tell, he is pursuing the truth to the best of his ability. And in the case of the government schools, he is 100% correct.
How Christian conservatives, who know that they will have to answer to God for how they raised their children, can send their children to godless, anti-Christian schools, isn't a mystery.
The main reason is free babysitting. Other families are divided between husband and wife. Then there is the "my school is different" crowd. Well, if your school prohibits prayer, it is no different in principle from any other godless school. And I doubt that it's much different in degree.
I've heard tales of old, where homilies were preached, telling Catholic parents that they had a solemn obligation to remove their children from the government schools. We've come a long way.

Absolutely NOT helpful! Parents have been doing this for 40 years and the system continues to grow worse.
Solution: IMPLODE the system! Remove your children. Elect representatives that will begin the process privatizing of K-12 schooling.
Government schooling is a socialist-funded, single-payer, price-fixed monopoly-cartel. NEVER in the history of mankind has such a system been reformed. Never! It must be imploded by removing its funding. That means removing the children and stopping the funding.
