Pope John XXIII is laid out in St. Peter’s, although the sequencing of the display was different. He was properly buried at the time of death. His body was moved after he was beatified and was found to be well preserved, so it was decided to put him on display. It’s a little grotesque IMHO, but hey ... it’s Rome, so over the top fits right in.

As a Catholic I wish the Church would quit doing stuff like this. Makes us all look like some sort of creepy cult. He should be buried to rest in peace until the Lord returns.

This one got left off the list somehow...

He looks like the one that *does* the embalming actually.

From what I’ve read, there’s very little of the original Lenin left. Eyes, ears, nose — all wax now. The brain was removed when he died and of course he never had a heart ...

These pickled dictators are just a last grasp of their cult of personality. The memory of them is important not their deeds or words. Look at the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials in Washington...the emphasis is on their words carved into the memorial.
I was also struck by the video of the changing of the guards at Ho Chi Minh's tomb. They reminded me of our own guards at the tomb of the unknowns in Arlington. The big difference is that we bestow this honor on ordinary unknown soldiers killed in defending this country. No leaders or even presidents are given this honor.

When Obama dies—he will be mummified and preserved in state for all time! Watch and see if I am right. People will be sent to the camps for not mourning with enough passion. His Tomb on the Mall in Washington will be visited by all with lines of subjects waiting to have there card stamped after viewing the body to get there extra 500 calories rations.

I’m told they all use Brawndo to preserve the bodies.
It’s got electrolytes.
