The city of Los Angeles, Cal. has the Olympic Games on it's mind. City officials have formally notified the United States Olympic Committee, letting the group know they want to bid for the 2024 Summer Games, ESPN reports.
The committee sent letters to 35 U.S. cities, looking for those interested in bidding on the games. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa responded, writing, "We are proud of our city's sports heritage and tradition, and we stand ready to work with you to bring the Olympic Games back to the United States."
Included with the mayor's response was a letter from the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, which included signatures from actor Tom Hanks, basketball great Magic Johnson, and Olympic gold medal winner Janet Evans.

The Mad Max Olympics
They did it there in 1988.
As long as Peter Ueberroth runs it. I think he made money during the ‘88 Olympics.
Not sure it was 84, but it was in the 80’s
When you say LA are you talking about the LA basin or just the city?
Sometimes people say LA and they really mean everything south of Oxnard to San Diego.
Yes, I know you were born there. Do you still say highway names as though they all start with THE?
The 101, The 405, The 5.....I do and it still cracks me up.
The funnest is when people say how far is it (from here to there) and you give them a time instead of distance.

Love this part;
...but how can you compare these
to the freeways
of Los Angelees
where it only takes about 3 hours to get home and even a little bit longer if you have an accident.
Oops...it was ‘84.
They hosted in the Summer of 84 not 88 and they did an amazing job at the time. BUT. This is not 1984 AND this is not the land of Ronald Reagan who was present at the time AND Los Angeles is a 3rd world dump versus what it used to be.
They shouldn’t get it.
South Florida needs to get off their asses and make a bid. They would get it in a second imo. Huge hub to all of Latin and South American flights into Miami and Fort Lauderdale. You have 3 major airports within 50 miles of each other MIA, FTL, and WPB. You have the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami, the arena in Sunrise/Ft.Lauderdale where the Panthers play, you have Dolphins/Sun Life Stadium, you have Marlins Stadium, you are on a peninsula surrounded by water for all water sports, endless miles of road for marathons through the Everglades OR up A1A.
Track and field can be run at University of Miami or a new park built for that. Swimming is perfect in Fort Lauderdale with their stadiums. FAU, University of Miami, FIU...other campuses state wide and if they branch out for Soccer they can use Tampa Stadium or head up to Orlando. They have the Ronald Reagan Turnpike, 595, I-75, and I-95.
They have thousands of hotels and plenty of beaches and parks and they literally are the most ready to make this happen. Why they are not making a serious pitch for it is beyond me.

I read somewhere that Nashville was considering making a bid. That would be...interesting.
where they gonna put the Olympic village... San Diego???
I bet it came out more like this:
Estamos orgullosos de herencia de los deporte de nuestra ciudad y tradición, y nosotros nos paramos nos preparamos para trabajar con usted devolver los juegos olímpicos a Estados Unidos".
Why not East LA with all the gangs?
Actually it was '32.
Maybe they can get Romney to run it for them. He doesn’t appear to be doing much of anything anymore.
I’ll give the Indianapolis folks credit, they knew the Olympics was an impossible dream.
But they are going to offer up another huge taxpayer gravy train in hopes of a second Super Bowl.
